Sacred Heart Diet: Soup Based 7 Day Meal Plan

The Sacred Heart Diet is a fad diet that has been circulating for many years.

sacred heart vegetable soup

The diet was supposedly thought to come from the cardiology department at Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital where it was used for overweight heart patients. However, like most of these diets – this is an urban myth.

The Sacred Heart Diet has been called a number of different names (such as the Spokane Heart Diet, the Cleveland Clinic Diet, Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital Diet and the Miami Heart Institute Diet).

Basically A Soup Based Diet

The Sacred Heart Diet is a soup-based diet and claims that you will lose 10-17 pounds in the first week.

This may be true, but most of the weight lost will tend to be water – and will be gained right back very soon after the diet.

This diet is very clearly an unsustainable fad diet but is not as nutritionally unsound as similar diets. Most of these diets claim some magical fat-burning science is involved, or that there is something special about the combination of foods. This is simply untrue – it is nothing more complex than a reduction in calories!

Here are the two of the most popular Sacred Heart Diet soup recipes that are the foundation of this fad diet.

The Sacred Heart Diet Soup Recipes

Most Popular Sacred Heart Soup Recipe

  • 1 or 2 cans of stewed tomatoes
  • 3 plus large green onions
  • 1 large can of beef broth (no fat)
  • 1 pkg. Lipton Soup mix (chicken noodle)
  • 1 bunch of celery
  • 2 cans green beans
  • 2 lbs Carrots
  • 2 Green Peppers

Season with salt, pepper curry, parsley, if desired, or bouillon, hot or Worcestershire sauce. Cut veggies in small to medium pieces. Cover with water. Boil fast for 10 minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue to cook until vegetables are tender.

Alternate Soup Recipe
Soup to be eaten ALL DAY as much and as often as you can.

  • 2 – 11oz. cans chicken noodle soup (Campbell Healthy)
  • 5 stalks of celery (diced)
  • 1 lb. pack frozen string beans
  • 4 carrots (diced)
  • 4 potatoes (diced)
  • ½ green pepper (diced)
  • 2 onions (diced)

The diet also bears a striking resemblance to the cabbage soup diet.

7 Day Diet Plan

Day 1
Any fruit (except bananas). Cantaloupes and watermelon are lower in calories than most other fruits. Eat only soup and fruit today.
Day 2
All vegetables. Eat until you are full with fresh raw, cooked or canned veggies. Try to eat green leafy veggies and stay away from dry beans, peas or corn. Eat veggies along with the soup and a baked potato at dinner time with butter. Don’t eat any fruits through today.
Day 3
Eat all the soup, fruit and veggies you want. Do not have a baked potato.
Day 4
Bananas and skim milk: Eat at least 3 bananas and drink as much milk as you can today, along with the soup.
Day 5
Beef and tomatoes: you may have 10 to 20 ounces of beef and a can of tomatoes, or as many as 6 tomatoes on this day. Eat the soup at least once today.
Day 6
Beef and veggies, eat to your heart’s content of the beef and veggies today. You can even have 2-3 steaks if you like with green leafy veggies but no baked potato. Be sure to eat the soup at least once today.
Day 7
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and veggies, until full (and eat the soup). You can add cooked veggies to your rice if you wish.

Drinks Allowed

  • Unsweetened juices
  • Tea (also herbal)
  • Coffee
  • Cranberry juice
  • Skim milk
  • Lots of water

The soup can be eaten at any time.

Sacred Heart Diet Variations

Here is a different version of the diet – alleged to have come from Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pennsylvania.

Follow the daily plan for 2 consecutive weeks, then take the following week off. You can repeat the cycle for as long as you like or until you achieve your weight loss goal.

MONDAY
Eat SOUP and all the FRESH FRUIT that you want. Nothing else. (no bananas)
TUESDAY
Eat SOUP and all the FRESH VEGETABLES that you want. Nothing else. (no corn or beans).
WEDNESDAY
Eat SOUP and BOTH FRUIT & VEGETABLES, all you want. Nothing else.
THURSDAY
Eat SOUP all day and 3 BANANAS. 1 GLASS OF SKIM MILK. Nothing else.
FRIDAY
Eat SOUP, up to 8 TOMATOES and ALL the skinless CHICKEN, lean BEEF & FISH that you want. Nothing else.
SATURDAY
Eat SOUP, ALL the skinless CHICKEN, lean BEEF & FISH that you want… nothing else.
SUNDAY
Eat SOUP and all the BROWN RICE that you want. Nothing else.

The Problems With This Diet

  1. Any diet that would tell you to eat unlimited red meat is not healthy, especially for those with heart disease or cholesterol problems.
  2. Diets that only focus on certain food groups and eliminate others isn’t sustainable long term.
  3. With no calorie or portion guidelines in place, people could consume too little calories or way too many on certain days.
  4. The Sacred Heart Diet is nutrient deficient on certain days.

Diet Not Endorsed by a Hospital

This diet is not recommended

  • The Sacred Heart Hospital in Montreal Canada (Hôpital Sacre Coeur) issued a press release in 2004 stating that “no nutritionist at the Hospital took part in the development of this diet”.
  • The American Heart Association have claimed that the diet is phony (ref).
  • The Sacred Heart Medical Center also disclaim any association with the diet (ref).

While people have reported losing a lot of weight on The Sacred Heart Diet, it is not a diet that will promote long-term healthy weight loss¹ ².

Most people gain the weight back quickly and have to keep repeating fad diets like this over and over again.

Diets that become a lifestyle teach portion control, address emotional eating issues, and are not very restrictive.

My Sacred Heart Diet is a book version of the diet and retails for $19. This is an improved and healthier version of the original.

Hi on day four have lost 5lb following diet. I do work and can not eat every 2 hours. I eat 4 times a day and have not been hungry at all. I take 1 excedrine /w caffeine if headache occurs. I am using Mrs. Dash on veg. Or Salad Elagance both very good on veg. I found Walden Farms product that is free of everything. Use on veg. Soup is good I added worchester and hot sauce to soup. Very good broth. Will cut veggies smaller next time.

  14. Liv

Is there difference in how much you’ll lose from the alternative soup? – just cause I don’t like tomatoes at all.

    • Pattycakes

I didn’t use tomatoes in the soup and on tomatoes and beef day 5 I ate very few cherrie tomatoes i don’t like ?

    • Sherylee

Put the canned tomatoes in the blender and add it to your broth Then you won’t have chunky tomatoes

  15. Pattycakes

I am on day 3 and have lost no weight. I did this years ago and lost 7 lbs the first week. I only have 7 lbs to lose and don’t understand why I am not losing any weight! Any suggestions? I am being very stick!!!

    • Pattycakes

Are you doing exactly whats listed…and water how much….you must get your water in and eat a lot of soup..

  18. Tim

I did this diet 18 years ago and lost about 18 lbs. I’m now doing it again before I go on vacation. This soup is kicking my butt. I’m going to puree it and add hot sauce. I hope this doesn’t limit my results.

  19. Barbara

My husband and I started yesterday. Today woke up with a wicked headache, him also. Will let everyone know the progress.

    • Wendy

Wicked headache could be side effects of no caffeine.

      • Barbara

I had caffeine. I think it’s not consuming sugar. Feel amazing. 2 inches from my hip and 1 inch from my waist. So glad I found this.

  20. Amanda

Can you eat chicken instead of the beef

    • Gio

Yes only on the protein days

  21. Julia

I have been doing this diet for over 12 weeks (3 months) I take two – three days off between each week….it works!!!! I’ve lost over 32 lbs and have gone from a size 13-14 to a 7-8…keep in mind, on your days off, limit sweets and alcohol.

  22. Pete

I first did this diet in January 2007. I did it for two week then took a week off. Then another through the end of the year. In January my weight was 310 pounds. By the end of December my weight was 215 pounds. The only other thing I did this whole time, was cut out all sweets and no alcohol.

  23. Mary

I’m doing this diet, i’m on day 4 and so far I’ve lost 5 pounds. Keep you guys posted with the results at the end of this week.

    • Barbara

      How did you do?

      • Amanda

        No one seems to reply
I’m dying to know if you can chew gum

        • Pattycake

Yes sugar free and i suggest before 8pm….i was told that chewing gum and using straws bloat your stomach

  24. Miranda

I have done thos for 2 days I’ve cheated both days, 3rd day today and I woke up with a wicked headache. I’ve still managed to lose 4lbs. Not bad.

  25. Rob

I have done this diet multiple times with great results. Unfortunately I did put most of the weight back on over a long period of time. I am on day 3 now and have lost 5#. I have changed the home made soup to progresso light soups. A little more calories and salt but still very effective. Makes the diet much easer to get through

    • Amanda

How did you fair at the end using the progressive light soup as I’m on day one and so sick of the homemade soup ! And I have done this years ago

    • Stephanie

      This is good to know!

  26. Elena

I would recommend this diet and please follow it exactly for better results. I’m on day 6, but this time I’ve skipped the banana / milk day ( I only had one banana and a glass of milk for breakfast and then the stake with tomatoes)… today continue with the stake and veggies and tomorrow brown rice. So far I’ve lost 8 lbs. Second week I’ll try to stick to every detail!

    • Allison

Hello Elena, how did your second week go? I completed this diet several years ago and lost 13lbs, however I have found it a bit harder this time around. I also added walking 30-60 mins a day. I will weigh in tomorrow on day 5 but not sure how well it will do for me this time. Before I didn’t exercise because I tend to tone quickly. I’ll keep you posted.

  27. Jane

I have done this , followed it to a T and lost 15 pounds in a week. I didn’t gain it back after. I would definitely recommend this diet, and follow it EXACTLY!

  28. Tracey

This os a goodbdiet to follow u will lose weight. Doing it

  29. Annie

The diet works! The first time I did it I lost 12 lbs and my daughter lost 15 lbs. I’m doing it again. I completed 2 days and lost 2.5 lbs. I’m only trying to lose 7-10 in total. The more you need to lose the faster the weight will come off. I’m not obese, just slightly overweight so I won’t lose as much as others.
I weigh myself when I wake up and when I’m about to go to bed. Yesterday I weighed less at the end of the day than when the day started. Now that’s progress!

  30. Catherine

Hi my name is Catherine I just made the soup and can’t wait to start this Diet

    • Allison

      Hi Catherine,
How did you do on this diet? I’m curious and on day 4 today. I haven’t weighed yet…will do tomorrow on day 5.

  31. Jo Jo

This recipe is not original Sacred Heart soup diet. Anything processed (LIPTONS CHICKEN NOODLE) Is a tip off .

  32. Ali

I have been sticking to every detail of this diet. Workout everyday. On day 4 and have only lost 1 lb. Not giving up but I am frustrated. Any tips?

  33. Lynn

I just finished this diet on Monday. Let me tell you it differently works. I lost 15 pounds. And you have to stick to the plan. Weighed myself on Sunday then on Monday I was 5 pounds lighter. So the order is important. I made smoothies on day 3, Spinach, apple, strawberries, water and ice. Also had butter on my brown rice w spenda

  34. Deborah

I did this 2 years ago for 2 weeks and I didn’t gain back the weight until now. So this definitely works for me and I will do it again.

    • Suné

Do you eat normal or healthy?

  35. Chantal Husson

I did that diet soup 5 years ago and i lost 14 lbs in a week and after that week i eat just alkaline and i lost 30 lbs in 30 days , i was feeling really good . now i decide to do that again because i am older and cholesterol little high so i now it’s time doing that again!

    • Therese Bolton

You said you ate alkaline, what is that? I 45 and need to loose 50 lads at the least. Tell what you did to loose the 30lbs of you finish the diet.

      • Monica Garcia

Alkaline refers to any leafy greens, spinach, kale, arougula, and everything that is green, cucumbers, zucchini, celery, peppers, your body works and fights best in an alkaline level rather than acidic which promotes illnesses including cancers, stick to live food (raw) and the pounds will drop in no time! Good luck!

    • Karen

      Just curious…what’s alkaline?

      • Karen

I tried the diet 3 years ago and a few times in between….I lost 17 pds the first time. I have lost 7 pds so far and I’m on day 4.
Keep up the good work folks….it does work.

  36. Linda

    SNK68
Thank you so much for all your input, I started this diet yesterday & am so glad I’ve found this forum. 🙂

  37. Florence

Can a person eat dates on this diet?

  38. Audra

Will the diet work without the soup…

  39. irene

So I have started this diet.. I am on Day 4. But I am at work and i had only a small Portion of this soup with me, milk and 3 bananas…so I ate also a small Portion of salat without oil or Dressing, only with salt… it#s ok??

    • virginia

its best to stick to diet

  40. Shay

Is the 60 calorie soup mix dry okay?

    • Deborah

I don’t think so. Every time I do this I use as much fresh vegetables as I can..

    • Jo

Yes, put it in the pot dry

  41. Loreto

    abocado, Olive oil are allowed??

  42. Meashy

This is my second time doing this diet, I am on day 5, thank God i am passed the banana day. Hate that day. would love to be able to substitute the bananas with something else, has anyone tried?

  43. Lise

When I prepare myself to start this diet I make a large pickling pot full and bottle the soup.
Then when I’m ready I have at least 24 mason jars to start and enough for 2 weeks and it doesn’t take up any room in the fridge.

    • JJ

How long does it last that way?

  44. Neil

The recipe makes one pot of the soup. Is that pot supposed to last the whole 7 days? Is it ok to eat more than one pot? The guidelines say the more soup you eat the more weight I’ll lose.

  45. Birdie

What are the nutrition is in the soup ?

  46. libby Adamthwaite

Hi, I’ve been on the diet now for 2 weeks. the good thing is I’m not constantly hungry anymore. The bad thing is, I’ve been experiencing severe muscle cramps in my legs and feet and dizziness. I’m not sure if this is due to the rapid eight loss or something else. It only happened when I started the diet? the Banana day seemed to help. Otherwise I like the diet, and I’m definitely loosing weight.

    • Deborah

I’m no expert but I think it’s good to take a break every 2 weeks for 2-3 days. Maybe you have some deficiency. Last time I had cramps the doctor gave me vitamin E and magnesium..

    • virginia

      take your vitamins

  47. Charley b

  50. Fadia

Hi I started the Sacred diet today Wednesday , but started Monday meal. My question with fruits can we eat dates? They are full of natural sugars, however I eat 3 everyday for the Iron and magnesium they have. If I shoudln’t eat them I wont. Thank you

  51. rachel

    can you use sweetners

  52. Bill

this diet works , true are the words you must stick to the instructions,
if not it’s a waste of time

  53. Medicnomore

I have started this before, but wanted to make sure everyone saw it. I used this diet for the first time twenty years ago! Then there wasn’t a hundred different versions. This one.is the closest to the one I used,(always being successful). The biggest change I see is the main ingredient being left off, which may help with having more for those who needed to make additional soup. Originally, you needed to chop a medium had of cabbage, cover with water, cook down, then add the other ingredients, and it was just canned or fresh tomatoes, not stewed. It also had the use of any spice to soup and even veggies if needed. As someone mentioned, curry was one they suggested, and we now know it is useful.
I also mentioned that I had used over the years, Truvia to sweeten drinks and fruits (like strawberries), butter flavored flakes and mist for potatoes/veggies, and the pump dressing for salads. I honestly don’t know if it’s sold anymore, but it was just flavored water essentially, but did give some additional taste w/out added calories, fat, etc.

  54. Ajit kaur

Hi can we use sugar free for tea or not.

  55. Melody

Can you have sugar free, fat free creamer in your coffee

  56. Jennifer Klauck

I’m on week 2 of this diet.. Before this diet I started the Apple Cider Vinegar drink 2X a day. Will this affect how much weight I lose?

  57. Ajit kaur

Hi i am vegetarian can I substitute meat and chicken with something plz help me as i really want to do this diet to boost my weight loss.

  58. Richie

Just finished the diet. Second time I’ve used it. I love it. Although I am not really overweight, I wanted to drop those extra pounds from Thanksgiving and Christmas. I began at 177 pounds (I am 5 feet 10 1/2 inches tall). Today (first day off the diet) I weighed in at 170.4. My usual comfortable weight is about 172, so I can now resume at a healthy, typical meal plan. FYI; my healthy, typical meal plan consists of whole grain cereal with blueberries and skim milk in morning, peanuts and raisins or cantaloupe and blueberries as a snack, and chicken, fish or (occasional) red meat with broccoli for dinner. (I only eat two full meals per day). For sweets I’ll have a Fiber One 90 calorie chocolate brownie. I also eat Skinny Pop popcorn on those “cheating” days. Admittedly, my one downfall is sugar-free coke zero. I drink a couple of cans a day. However, I drink 4 or 5 bottles of water as well. I’m 65 years old , exercise daily, and feel as good as ever. I plan on doing the sacred heart diet once every three months to “cleanse”. Hope this helps.

  59. Melody Hancock

Can I drink the apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, water, cinnamon, and honey mixture while I am on this diet? I usually drink that on a weekly basis.

  60. Kathleen

This diet is the ONLY diet that works for me as I see results quickly! Losing a pound or two a week or 10 pounds in a month is depressing and I quickly get discouraged and quit. I can go on this diet for 2 weeks, lose a dress size, fit into old clothes and be encouraged to press onward.

  61. Nichelle

What are you supposed to eat for breakfast or are you just supposed to eat the soup for breakfast lunch and dinner? I like to have 2 boiled eggs for breakfast, is that ok?

    • Kathleen

It’s not okay to eat anything that’s not on the diet. Eggs aren’t listed so it’s a no. If you want to lose 10 pounds a week you’ve got to follow the diet 100%.

  62. Bob

Can I eat green leafy vegetables every night?

    • Kathleen

Yes you can and it’s encouraged.

  63. Margaret Jane

All the comments here are very helpful thank you. Can I use uncle bens brown rice in the packet?

  64. Dcrc

Can you drink alcohol with this diet?

    • Ted

      No, alcoholic drinks contain calories.

    • Bob

      I do occasionally.

    • Janna

This diet does not lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time. Because of the fat build-up in your system. Go off the diet at least 14 hours before any intake of alcohol.

  65. Rick

Of course no institution is going to endorse this for fear of those that would stay on it for a much longer time period risking a chance of not getting the proper nutrition for good health. Who’d put their name on that? It’s just a common sense diet never meant to last for more than a week or two. I was told it originated for those about to have heart surgery!

  66. Rick

I’ve tried it and it really does work. So what’s wrong with losing the weight and afterwards maintaining a smart diet of good calorie intake and healthy foods to maintain the weight you lost during the “sacred heart diet”? Just make sure you don’t go overboard after the diet so it wasn’t all in vain! Thus dropping 10 or so lbs. can be kept off by now eating healthy and watching calorie intake.

  67. sandy hamilton

I’ve lost 26 pounds so far and have not put it back on. My cholesterol levels have dropped and I have more energy than I’ve had in years.
I was able to eat as much as I wanted of soup to keep me from wanting to eat the wrong foods. I’ve tried other diets which have not worked.
After reading this alternative soup you have listed potatoes they are only allowed on certain days not every day.
My last blood work, after losing 19 pounds, have my levels in the no medication needed. My Dr. was very surprised and happy for my progress.

    • N

How long were you on it to lose 26 lbs?

      • aleeah

Probably 2 weeks I lost 12 pounds in a week. This diet is awesome & the soup is very good.

  68. Sandra

Can you swap days with meals

  69. Jay

On vegetable day can I eat red and yellow peppers or only green. Can I only eat tomatoes on the day stated or other veggie days.

  70. Jenna

Hi, it seems my weight is not budging and I’ve been on this diet for 3 days. What do I do?

    • SNK68

You follow through, don’t cheat and don’t check your weight every day.

      • aleeah

The first day you should have lost weight. Get an cup of water & pour 2 cap full of apple cinder vinegar… do that twice a day. Also, drink half of your body weight. For an example, an 200lbs person would drink 25cups of water. an water bottle contain 16oz … 12.5 bottles of water

  71. Maria

    I love this diet

  72. kolala

Great, I think with this sacred diet, weight will not be a problem

  73. Sara

Can you make green smoothies on days that you can have veggies & fruits with approved fruits/veggies??

    • SNK68

Yes but as long as those are the only ingredients included. You can’t add anything more.

  74. crystal edwards

I love this sacred heart diet i did one before and the results was amazing.

  75. Janiqua

    Good day

I struggle to loose weight and 1 of my friends told me to use this diet!!!
I didn’t start with it, because i wanna find out about the following please!!!
    I really need help…

    * I’m a Vegetarian and i don’t use beef or Chicken stock/broth

Can i replace it with something els or do i leave it out?

    * Also i was in a car accident and broke my back and I’m not allowed to do exercises until i get my back fixed… I’ve picked up +/-20kg

Will this effect the weight loss?

    • SNK68

      Hi Janiqua,

Sorry to hear about your car accident and I hope you heal well.
Ok as a vegetarian, you’re going to have to find substitutes for day 5 and 6 for sure. As for the broth, use low fat vegetable broth 900ml.
Not being a vegetarian myself I don’t know the produce that is out there that can fulfill what the meat protein does.
You need something that has as much protein as a meat like chicken, beef or fish and around the same calorie count.
That I cannot help you with, so you’ll have to find the right ingredient to compensate for the meat protein.
This is a diet that does not require exercise, especially for the first 4 days. So don’t worry yourself about the exercise.
Your challenges will be finding different ingredients to compensate. Everything in this diet is vegetables and fruits mostly so you’ll have no problems with most days.
To get the best and most benefits from this diet, it would be good to make it a 14 days diet, meaning you do the 7 day diet as detailed on here and then for the next following 7 days you follow a less stringent regiment by just following the simple 6 meals a day concept. Either 3 meals and 3 snacks a day for 1100 to 1200 calories a day max or, 4 meals 2 snacks a day for the same calorie daily intake.
Doing the follow up diet as I call it, will compensate for your inability to exercise. If you can, give me your stats, height, weight, age and we’ll use the calorie calculator to know your weight loss daily calorie intake range for weight loss?

      • Jimmy

Janiqua there is a veggie grain called fava beans and is really rich in protein i use it a lot in my daily meals the full can have almost 40 g of protein that a veggie meal will boost u real good ? As well hummus dip too is good or u have choice for protein smoothie ?

  76. Clive Jackson

I am on this diet, BUT I exercise three hours a day – 1,000 calories burned each day.
I can’t bike early in the morning without one 70calorie slice of toast in my stomach. I this catastrophic? And if I substitute Campbell’s tomato soup occasionally for the chicken noodle, is that a serious problem?

    • SNK68

      Hi Clive,
It’s highly recommended to not do too much exercise during the first 4 days as your calorie intake cannot sustain your physical activities. You will burn muscles as much as body fat.
The diet is set up specifically with specific ingredients and sequences. If you plan on doing this diet, then follow it to a “T” to get the full benefits of it. You can do whatever you want, it’s your body but if you want this diet to work, don’t change, add or substitute any ingredients and keep your exercise to a minimum for the first 4 days.
Also, from the information you provided, you sound like someone who’s already considerably fit and if so, this diet is definitely not for you. If you don’t have a high enough body fat % , you will burn muscles more than fat. And you definitely won’t drop high numbers. Somebody who burns 1000 calories per day by exercising 3 hours a day is way too fit for this diet. If you read through the comments, you will see I addressed this specific issue in much more details.

Can I leave out beef broth and just and a little more of the Lipton Chicken noodle?

    • Amanda

Add not (and) on the Lipton Soup, Sorry!

      • SNK68

No, I would recommend against it. That’s a complete change of ingredients. It would take a lot of Lipton soup to compensate for 900 ml of low fat broth (beef or chicken). And the calories would also be different.

  78. SNK68

    Hi everyone,
I have a little request if you all don’t mind?
This website provides a lot of information regarding this 7 day diet and with all the many comments/statements and questions that are answered on here. It would be very useful for everyone that has done or is currently doing this diet to post your experiences and results.
Please, share your experiences and difficulties as much as those who had better experiences and tips&tricks to make it easier for themselves and eventually others.
Some have/will succeed and some might fail, either way your results and experiences are key to helping one another or any new people willing/wanting to try doing this 7 day diet plan.

If you went through this diet and succeeded, then let us all know how you did it and how your experience went. Your experiences are crucial to encourage and support new people being introduced to this diet.
And if for some reasons, your diet didn’t go as planned, then let us all know too. Tells us what you did, changed or didn’t follow.
Bad results and the experiences that go with it are more important than the success stories.
People need to know what you might have changed, added, subtracted or modified from the original soup recipe and/or 7 day daily plans and ingredients. Or maybe some have not had the end result they wanted, even though they followed the recipe and 7 day diet plan to a “T”. Tells us your starting stats, height, weight, age, gender and exercise levels. That kind of information could answer many questions in regards to successful results and/or unsuccessful results. Your experiences, success, difficulties, health stats, combined with the information already posted on here in many comments can really help you and others to succeed.
Let’s work together and support one another by sharing our experiences, results (good or bad) to figure out how to improve and mutually support each other. I’ve posted tons of information regarding this diet, combined with my own experiences and many others have also posted great information as well. Heck, after going through all the comments posted on here, all the information regarding this diet is on here, thanks too many who helped by sharing their experiences and giving out great information and answering the many questions that people had.
I see many people asking questions and being answered and stating they were going to start this diet thanks to the information posted, but go silent and don’t post their end results and experiences.
Your data, difficulties, hardships, successes, failed attempts, great results are crucial to helping yourselves and the many others wanting to try this diet out.
Working together and helping one another with shared experiences and results, can only help improve future success stories. If you tried this diet and didn’t get the end results you wanted, then let’s go through everything you did and try to find what might of gone wrong?
Like I said previously, many also did this diet and followed it to a “T” but didn’t get the end results they hoped/expected after going through the hardship of this diet.
I have some people who have contacted me directly and some did great and some didn’t, some even had digestive issues that were maybe just that “digestive issues” or in one case that person tried “blending” the soup. And had to halt their diet due to digestive issues which we don’t know for sure what happened?
Was it because the soup was blended and harder to digest in such a form or was it because that person’s digestive system just couldn’t handle the combination of the ingredients or daily plans with other ingredients in the day plans? Are there others who had similar digestion issues?
We can’t know this if people don’t share their experiences and end results.
This is not about giving grief to anyone, but rather trying to see and pin point what could of affected the end results.

So please, share your data, experiences, hardships, successes, failures, which part was the most difficult, which part was the easiest and so on. Only by sharing such data can we (together) help others and even ourselves regarding this diet.
So, don’t be shy and please share your experiences, good or bad.

Thank you and best wishes to all.

    Steve

Nowhere in this diet there is mention of the use of herbs and/or spices. Can one add fresh parsley, cilantro, basil, mint, or dried Herbes de Provence, Oregano, (dried), curry powder, to make the veggies and other ingredients more interesting? I am planning to start this diet on Monday, at the recommendation of a friend. Thank you for your input!

    • Ted

Feel free to use no or little calorie herbs and spices.

    • Barbara Magnus

Thank you. Just fresh herbes and no bottled mixed spices, I guess. I also enjoy fresh lime juice, to ‘up’ the taste. Is that ok? What about substituting low-fat chicken broth for the beef broth? Thank you so much for your guidance and input!

      • SNK68

        Hi Barbara,
Like Ted said, spices are a definite go, be it fresh or dry. Just no oil, or any extracts. And yes you can substitute low fat beef broth to low fat chicken broth.
Spices are in this diet your best friends, they help especially with the vegetable part of it. My to go spice is lemon pepper on steamed vegetables. Or low sodium seasoning salt.
And I add a lot of curry to my soup, not just for taste but also for the benefits that spices like curry, speed up your metabolism and therefore help with the fat burning. I also found out recently (thanks to someone on here) that Jalapenos is a great vegetable to add with your leafy green veggies. Jalapeno and other hot spices in the same family, work great for weight loss due to their benefits of speeding up your metabolism and burn fat all on their own.
After finding out how great such vegetables are, I googled the nutritional values and benefits to weight loss and this is a super weight loss vegetable just on it’s own. So, same things would apply by using dry hot spices in anything you combine it with.

Hi,I have done this diet before but I have done my soup with cabbage and now that I read the instructions to prepare it I see there is no cabbage….what should I do?

    • SNK68

      Hi Ema,
There are many variations of this diet with very subtle differences but yet very similar that they are just called by different names.
I can literally say that I have tried them all no matter what names they were called by. They still have the same basics, except for some small differences, be it be different ingredients or different day plannings. And yes I have tried the Cabbage variation and came back to this one above and each time I tried different but similar diets, I always came back to the original.
      So, the question is…
How good/well did the cabbage soup variation work out for you?
If I was asked the same question, my reply would be… It worked out ok but definitely not as good as the original version that I now swear by. (which is the version mentioned on here)
So, the decision is yours and yours alone, there’s tons of information posted on here in the comment section to help you out. If you can, take the time to read them so you can make a better informed decision.

      Good luck and best wishes!

      • Ema

I understand,I have read the comments and I see that to make the soup I need 1 large can of beef broth (no fat),but here in my country we don’t have these kind of cans in the markets, what should I do? Plus for the green beans we don’t have them in a can, just fresh beans…should I cook them alone or with the other ingredints? When I tried the cabbage soup I didn’t liked it,in fact I eat it just the first three days of the diet and I lost like 2.5 kg,I wanna try this one since I see people are having good results.

        • SNK68

Beef broth doesn’t just come in cans. It often comes in a cardboard type container like in my country. I use fresh green beans myself, wash and cut in small pieces and cook them like I would do with can green beans.
You will probably feel the same about this soup on your third day, everybody mostly does. I even mentioned it in the phase we all go through, the third day is the make it or break it day. You start hating the soup, even the smell. But you have to force yourself to push through.

        • Ema

Ok,I will see if I can find a can of beef broth, thank you for answering me.

  81. SNK68

    Hi everyone!
I’ve been getting many questions/inquiries via email lately and it’s a pleasure to answer them to the best of my knowledge and experiences. So, keep them coming and if I can help you with the answers, it makes me happy to do so.
And now onto the subject that keeps recurring more and more lately in my mailbox regarding the 10 to 17 lbs possible weight loss during this 7 day diet plan and how was I able to accomplish such numbers by doing three 7 day diets in 5 weeks without spending 2 hrs a day in the gym 6 days a week.
My answer is simple, I was able to do so for two major reasons…
    1) I had the body fat % to lose, meaning I was not fit at all and had a beer belly even though I don’t drink beer. (this reason will have more meaning as you read on). My starting weight was 221.6 and I’m 5’11” tall in my late 40’s.
    2) When I decide to do this diet, I commit 100% hardcore to it, be it just once or three times within 5-6 weeks. In a previous comment/reply to someone on here, I set a 7 days example from day 1 to day 7-8-9 up to day 14th. Not everyone can commit so hard or have enough of a motivation to make the sacrifices to do it so intensively. And yes, you don’t need to do it as I do it. Many people have lost major weight (up to 18-22 lbs) by just doing the strict minimum required. As long as you stay committed and follow the diet to a “T” without changing/adding/subtracting the ingredients and follow the 7 day plan and stick to it without cutting corners and have the body fat % to lose. You will lose body fat and put some nice numbers up.

Now, to address the question I keep getting about weight numbers being on the high numbers of lbs loss for some and lower for others.
To address this issue, I’ll give/walk you through two examples.
Person A) female, 30 yrs old, 5,5″ tall, 170 lbs
Person B) female, 30 yrs old, 5,5″ tall, 140 lbs
Both follow the 7 day diet perfectly and do the next 7 day follow up by eating healthy and under 1250 calories a day max.
On day 8 early morning, person A) lost 17.5 lbs.
On day 8 early morning, person B) lost 11.5 lbs
From day 8 early morning to day 14th early morning, person A) lost an extra 3.5 lbs.
From day 8 early morning to day 14th early morning, person B) lost an extra 1.5 lbs.
Both followed the diet to a “T” and both did the exact same exercise from day 4 to day 14th.
So, if they both did everything right and perfect, how come person A) lost so much more than person B)?
The answer is quite simple, person A) had a much higher body fat percentage to start with than person B).
The honesty here is, Person B) is reasonably fit and doesn’t have as much body fat to lose as person A).
If person A)’s goal is to lose 30-35 lbs in two, maybe three 7 day diets with 2 weeks off and eating right in between. And you commit and do everything right, your chances are good to achieve that weight loss. Heck you might even surpass that and lose more than 35 lbs. Just remember, as you lose bigger numbers in the beginning, you’ll lose less on your next 7 day diets because you have less body fat % to lose now. Bottom line, the closer you get to your goal, the harder it is to shed the rest of the extra lbs.
And now, onto person B) the fact that her starting weight is much lower, so is her body fat % , it’s harder for her to lose high numbers even though she’s done the exact same things as person A).
Believe it or not, person B) will have to do a little extra to reach her goal, as long as her goal is realistic and healthy.
For examples, implement a bit more cardio from day 5 to day 14th and instead of eating 1250 calories max daily from day 8 to day 14th, she might have to drop the 1250 calories a day max to 1050 calorie a day intake max, from day 8 to day 14th. By doing just this little extra (difference), person B) would probably drop from 140 lbs to 128-125 lbs realistically with just one attempt. If you want to lose a bit more, then after week 2 you start over your second 7 day diet and you should realistically lose another 5-8 lbs. But remember, those extra lbs will be much harder to lose and there’s no room for mistakes or cheating of any kind.
If you read up on my 5 week journey to losing 43.4 lbs, you will see that my first 7 day diets my loss was 16.4 on day 8 and by day 14th I had lost a total 18.8 lbs.
My next two 7 day diets, my losses were lower from the second one to the third one. Because I did not have the same body fat % as to when I started. So, you also must expect the same if you do the diet two to three times no matter how much you commit to perfection during your following extra diets. The less body fat % you have, the less lbs you will lose.
I hope this long winded explanation covers the differences of weight losses from person A) to person B).

Good luck and best wishes to all!!!
P.S. Easy on Easter day binges…lol

      Cranberry juice (Diet)
Skim milk (only on day 4)
      Lots of water
The soup can be eaten at any time.

      FAQ+Tips&Tricks…
How much soup do I need to eat daily?
On day 1 to day 4, at least 3 large bowls, 4 would be better (plate size kind of bowls).
Day 5 to 7, best to eat either 2 large bowls or 3 smaller bowls.
By the end of day 4, start of day 5, your remaining pot of soup should be down by 2/3.

How much liquid all together should I drink daily?
At least a gallon of liquid or more, mostly water is best. But if you’re like me and detest drinking so much water, you’ll want to drink something else than just water.
Good liquids to complete your gallon a day (minimum) are, OCEAN”S SPRAY DIET cranberry juice (10 calories per 250 ml and 0 sugar)
Lemon water (real lemon juice from freshly squeezed lemons) is also good as is black coffee. Black coffee is actually good and recommended as it is used to burn bodyfat in a multitudes of other type of diets. Oh and green tea, also highly recommended in many other diets.

How do I know if I am not drinking enough? Listen, if you’re not going to pee at least 6-7 times a day, you’re not drinking enough.

I’m not a fan of eating a baked potato, can I substitute for something else?
No, your body needs the potassium and you’ll enjoy the taste of if it with butter (the only time you can have butter during this diet).

What fruits should I eat on days I can eat fruits?
I follow the advice that comes with the diet and stick to cantaloupes and water melon.
And bananas only on day 4, at least 3 and that’s the only time you can eat bananas during this diet.

What kind of veggies should I eat and can I cook them?
Here’s the green veggies I eat, broccoli, asparagus, brussell sprout, spinach salad or mix spring salad.
Can I add dressing or butter to the salad or other veggies?
No, you can only add spices and here’s a tip, something that works for me taste wise and helps me eating all those veggies.
I steam half of my asparagus and broccoli, and use lemon pepper to season it. You can also use low sodium seasoning salt.
The other half I eat raw and sometimes I add lemon pepper or low sodium seasoning salt on my raw vegetables.

When should I eat my fruits and veggies?
In between your soup meals and when hungry, but if you’re hungry and haven’t eaten enough soup and are behind on it, then soup should be your first choice when hungry. If you’ve eaten your quota needed of soup for the day, you can eat your fruits (when allowed) and veggies at anytime and as much as you want till you’re full.

On day 4, it says to drink as much as I can of skim milk but I am lactose intolerant, what should I drink? Someone might be better at answering that question than me, there are other types of milks but how are they calories wise, protein wise, fat wise compared to skim milk? Maybe a lactose free skim milk is out there? You can only drink skim milk on day 4.

On day 5, I’m not much of a red meat eater, can I substitute beef for something else?
Yes you can substitute beef for another meat protein such as chicken or fish, you just won’t get the boost of iron you need for energy. Also, I highly recommend not having more than 10 ounces of whatever meat you choose.

I don’t like tomatoes on day 5, can I substitute for another kind of vegetable?
Someone on here “Ted” said yes as long as it’s a non starchy vegetable and doesn’t surpass 132 calories total. I’ve looked it up and tomatoes are considered a super food and have well known benefits for weight loss and heart benefits as well.
      So, it’s up to you.
Tips for eating 6 to 8 normal size tomatoes, eat them like apples during the day, cut the top and bottom sides and add either regular pepper or again, lemon pepper.

Day 6, it says I can eat as many steaks as I want plus all the veggies I can eat plus the soup, can I really do this?
My personal recommendation is, eat at least one large bowl of soup or two smaller ones. And eat no more than a 12 ounce steak or chicken/fish, whichever you choose.
From my experiences, eating meat to my hearts content totally backfired on me each time I did it. Now I only eat steaks between 10 to 12 ounces and no more. 10 ounces on day 5 and 12 ounces on day 6.

Day 7, I don’t really like rice, I actually detest eating rice, especially brown rice. Can I substitute brown rice for something else?
No, brown rice has a significant purpose at this time in your diet. Eat all the soup you have left plus your rice and veggies till you’re full.

Can I quit smoking while doing this diet, like killing two birds with one stone?
HELL NO!!! Don’t even try it, it’s like chasing two rabbits at once and you’ll lose them both. (trust me, I know!)
The people around you will really dislike you if you try to do both. (grumpy level is at maximum….lol)

Tip; If you’re like me and hate rice, then cook it like I do, I add 1 tsp of lemon pepper in the water mixed with a tbs of butter and salt.
It’s actually good and I make 2 cups of rice for 4 meals of rice for the day. If you make only 1 cup of rice, cut the above spices and butter quantity in half.

Tip: When you’re done making your soup and while it’s cooking, I highly recommend to prep all your fruits and veggies for the week so that when you have a craving/hunger, those are ready and on hand.
Tip: Eat your snacks “fruits/veggies” in between your soup meals.
Every diet out there no matter by what name they are called, all have one basic core rule, eat at least 6 meals a day, 4 meals 2 snacks. That way, you’re always feeding your body so it doesn’t store any fat in case you don’t feed it. Meaning, your metabolism has a mind of it’s own. If you only eat 1 or 2 big meals a day, your body will store fat because it doesn’t know when will be the next time you feed it. So try to spread your meals/snacks evenly with that in mind.
Tip: Exercise, for the first 4 days, keep it to your usual activities.
Day 5 trough 7 and then 8 to 10th day, you can implement more heart pumping cardio kind of exercises. (best done after your meat meals)
BIGGEST TIP OF ALL: Only weigh yourself day 1 early morning, before eating or drinking anything and don’t touch that scale till day 8 early morning before eating or drinking anything.
That scale can be your own worst enemy, as one day it will boost you and then the next day can deflate you just as quick.

If any other questions, just ask. ?
Oh and if you do this diet, post what was the hardest part and what is your end result?
During your 7 days, if you’re having difficulties, get on here or other forums and you’ll get encouragement and support through the process.
All this information was already posted. And there’s more posted, I recommend you skim through the comments for extra information that might help you.
      Hope this helps.
      Good luck!

      • Sara J

SNK68 thank you very much for the information,I will start the diet next week and I will post my results,by the way congratulations for your results, such inspiring ? I hope I will keep doing the diet like you.Thank you thank you ?

        • SNK68

          Hi Sara J,
You’re very welcome and thank you for your kind words regarding my results. It’s greatly appreciated!
I wouldn’t recommend doing this diet back to back on your first attempt, just focus on doing it once and doing it the right way. Stay focus and remember that after your last day (the 7th day), day 8 to 10, your body is most probably still in fat burning mode, so be careful on those days and make sure you eat healthy and calculated. 4 meals and 2 healthy snacks spread evenly during the day, for a total of 1250 calories max daily intake.
What I mean is, even though this is called a 7 day diet, it’s actually a 14 day diet if you do it right. Do the 7 day diet as planned and described above and then the next following 7 days after that, eat 4 meals, 2 snacks for a total of 1250 calories max for the next 7 days.
As for the scale, take your weight on day 1 early morning before eating, drinking anything and if possible after doing your number 1 and 2 morning business. Then only get back on that scale on day 8 early morning under the same conditions as on day 1. Then get back on the scale on day 10th under same conditions as prior weight taking and then the last time on day 15th under the same conditions again.
Taking your weight on specific days is really important because as I’ve said many times over and over again, your scale can be your own worst enemy.
When in doubt, just take a step back and think of your end goal and what it means to you. In the end, this is just 7 to 14 days sacrifice in your life, it’s nothing, it’s just dust under your finger nails.
You can do this, just stay strong in your resolve!
If you need anything more, then feel free to contact me privately at snknight1968 @ hotmail dot com , just include “7 day diet” in the subject line.
Good luck and best wishes in your endeavor!! 🙂

There are many different ingredients in a few of the diets I have seen on here. On the recipe that was first started it was Lipton’s Onion Soup mix not the chicken noodle. There are more Carbohydrates in the chicken noodle one. NO carrots or green beans either those have more Carbohydrates. But I didn’t see garlic, soy sauce, or salsa in there either. The skim milk is only for the 4th day not the whole 7 days, and 3 banana’s max for the 4th day also. Good luck to all that do use this diet and make sure you watch for any hidden health problems.

  84. SNK68

    Hiya all,
Well today is day 8 of week 5, and my final result of my third 7 day diet is 9.4 lbs loss.
5 weeks ago, my starting weight was 221.6 lbs and after 5 full weeks, three 7 day diets, my final weight is 178.2 lbs.
For a total weight loss of 43.4 lbs for a 5 week period.
I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy and at times I was a bit grumpy. But the result makes it all worth it. I have never done this diet 3 times in a row and the hardest part was definitely eating the same darn soup every day. I won’t repeat my journey that I posted since the start since the end result is what matters for me right now. But if you’re curious as to how I did it, just read my previous comments that detailed my 5 week journey/diet.
So, for the next week, I will follow a 1250 calorie a day regiment, to see if I can lose more or at least stabilize and not gain weight back. I will definitely have a “reward day” on day 10th.
Now, I’ll just do some extra cardio and low weight exercises to tone up for the summer.
For those detractors that say this diet doesn’t work and you only lose water, I say B.S!
This diet, if followed to a “T” does work and I didn’t have to go to a gym 2 hours a day for 6 days.
For me, this is a new record, this is the most weight I’ve ever lost doing this diet. The fifth week was definitely hard and even though it was the least weight I lost, it was worth it big time for me. I haven’t weighed under 180 lbs in at least 15 years.
    And I feel freaking great!!!
Next week I’ll do my lemon water detox and cleanse, and I might even lose a few pounds in the process.
So, I’m a very happy camper today!! 🙂

I wish everyone good luck and all the best doing your diet!

I have a different copy of the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital Diet – cabbage soup diet if you are interested in it.

      • SNK68

        Hi sfinn,
Thanks but I’ve done this diet for such a long time and tried many different variations that I am now doing the diet under the “if it ain’t broken, then don’t fix it” mentality. This is the variation that I swear by. But you should post your different copy for others who might want to try it.

      • Jim

I have been trying to find the first Sacred Heart recipe with ginger etc. you cook for hours and strain ingredients. would you have it?

        • SNK68

          Hi Jim,
The name of the Sacred Heart was added to this diet years ago but has nothing to do with Sacred Heart Hospital. This diet and many others similar to it were created decades ago by nutritionists and dietitians for people with heart problems due to their obesity and for quick weight loss for people with all problems that come from being overweight, it was also for athletes who needed quick weight loss to make weight for their sporting events. As for the variant of the recipe with ginger, I don’t have it or remember seeing it, so if you find it, please feel free to post it please.
The only diet that I know of and that includes “ginger” is the Lemon Water cleanse which I am doing right now (I’m on day 2).
It’s a recipe of fresh lemon juice, fresh ginger, real honey, water and it’s a 7 to 14 days regiment.
My recipe is, 6 fresh squeezed lemons with one lemon being grated for the zest and added to 3 liters of water, plus I boil fresh ginger for about 15 minutes (a good size fresh piece of peeled ginger) and then add the ginger water to the lemon juice, zest of 1 lemon, honey to taste and 3 liters of water. I take 8 ounces of that lemon water in the morning and right before bedtime (about an hour before bedtime). I’ve lost an average of 6 to 9 extra lbs depending on if I do a 7 day or 14 day regiment and I feel great and highly energized during and after the cleanse. I highly recommend this cleanse above all others, either self made or off the shelf.
Also, in one variant of this cleanse, some add fresh garlic cloves. << I tried that variant once or twice and even though I love garlic, I can't seem to enjoy it with the garlic, so no garlic for me.

        • Jim

          Hi
No I don’t have it anymore and it disappeared from the internet.I’m disappointed that you don’t know of it and nobody still has it.It’s a recipe I enjoyed for any occasion.
          Jim

        • SNK68

          Jim,
Sorry to disappoint you with my lack of knowledge of that variant of the recipe. I’ve known and done this diet and others similar to it, since my late 20’s and early 30’s. And I’ve done and tried pretty much all variants of this diet. Except for the one you speak of, I’ve never heard of it or seen it. Had I heard of it, I would of tried it for sure. Ginger is one of the most underestimated and underrated ingredient out there, that can help with many health problems. It’s definitely a superfood and people should always have some on hand. Fresh Ginger being the best out of any other way of usage. You can get it already peeled and in water or other versions, but fresh remains the best. If you ever find your version of the diet, be sure to post it.

  85. Sharon

I’m going to try this diet because I’m having knee surgery in June ,I have high blood pressure and I’m a diebe tic and I have sleep apnea ,also restless leg syndrome will this diet trigger any of my illinesses?

    • SNK68

      Hi Sharon,
First, I want to make clear that I am in no way a health specialist in any way, shape or form. With that said, I do know this diet inside and out.
I, too have high blood pressure and every time I’ve done this diet, my blood pressure has gone down and regulated itself without my usual daily blood pressure medication. I also have a heart condition called SVT, I have a few episodes here and there and have medicine to help control my attacks. I’m actually waiting for surgery to fix the issue once and for all. During this diet and the days following the end of it (even weeks after), I’ve never had an episode or attack. And after many years doing this diet, I attribute not having attacks to the combination of healthy vegetables and fruits in this diet. Trust me, SVT attacks are scary and painful as f*ck!
With that said, you have many other variables that I do not have any idea on how this diet could/would affect you???
From what I know about why and when this diet and/or similar diets like this were created, were for obesity, heart issues, high blood pressure.
But I don’t know about diabetes, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome.
Let’s start with what we do know, all the ingredients in this diet are healthy. No doctor on the planet is ever going to tell someone you’re eating too many good vegetables and/or too many good fruits. This diet has a no sugar at all rule to be effective. So, I don’t know about your diabetes and low sugar reactions you might have to deal with. Hence why I would seriously either have a talk with your doctor or consider doing a different diet.
The first part, first stage of this diet is to shock your metabolism by going from high calorie intake to almost none for a few days. In your case, I foresee the same symptoms as someone doing heavy exercise during the first few days because their bodies cannot sustain their physical activities due to the lack of calories and proteins. Symptoms would/could be light headed, dizziness, over exhaustion, lost of balance and so on. Hence why I am so adamant in telling people not to over exercise or do more than their usual physical activities, especially during the first 4 days of this diet. Everything in this diet is healthy, except the calorie and protein deprivation during the first 4 days. For someone normal, it just sucks and doesn’t really pose any physical danger.
If after doing the right research and/or talking with your doctor you decide to go ahead with this diet, I would suggest doing it before your surgery for sure. When healing from any kind of surgery, your healing factor needs all it’s (let’s say healing powers). Plus, like I’ve said hundreds of times before, doing this diet during summer or hot spring days sucks. It’s hard to stick to this hot soup diet on hot days.
But let’s get back to the beginning, for this diet to work, you need to cut out all sugars except from natural fruits.
You can’t add sugar to your coffee, to your meals, heck you can’t add sugar to anything period. So, if this is something that you cannot do, due to your diabetes, then this diet is not for you as you would put yourself through a hardship without getting the full benefits.
If you do choose to go ahead and do this diet, then make sure you check your sugar levels daily and more often than just once or twice. And I would also recommend being followed by your doctor during the process.
Bottom line from where I am sitting, I would not recommend this diet due to the many unknown variables that ails you.
I’m sure these words weren’t what you wanted to read/hear but in your case I definitely urge you to be on the side of caution.
Maybe someone on here with medical knowledge could/would chime in with more information or advice.

  86. Elena

Hi,I want to start the diet tomorrow and I want to know if I drink detox water with grapefruit or water with ginger &lemon K will lose more weight or should I just drink normal water and I will lose the same weight ?

    • SNK68

      Hi Elena,
You’ll lose the same weight whether you do your detox cleanse or not. I do a lemon water cleanse after, when I’m done my final diet.
I only drink lemon water during the diet to help me drink more water.

  87. Serenity

Hi, so I’ve already done this diet for one week and I lost 6kgs, does that mean I can just continue from day 1 without a 2 day break from the diet since I did not lose more than 7.5 kgs like the plan said?. Also would this be dangerous if I do so? Will I get sick?

    • SNK68

      Hi Serenity,
Congratulations, 6 kgs is 13.2 lbs, so job well done!
The plan says that you could/should lose between 10 lbs to 17 lbs in 7 days, so you’re right on point and should be very happy with your results.
If you plan on doing this diet multiple times in a short time, I highly suggest to take a full week off in between diets.
Like I just did, I started 4 weeks ago, and am now on day 2 of week 5.
      week 1) Soup diet
Week 2) Healthy eating, 6 meals a day for a total of 1250 calories max per day.
      Week 3) Soup diet
Week 4) Healthy eating, 6 meals a day for a total of 1250 calories max per day.
      Week 5) Soup diet
I do not recommend doing this diet again only after 2-3 days off from finishing one. You need the 5-7 days off to reset your system/metabolism, that’s the best and healthiest way to do it.
Don’t be in too much of a hurry.
Please take the time to read the multiple comments on here by many who’s input/insight will help you immensely.
Also, if you eat right on your week off as mentioned in previous comments, you can still lose 1-3 lbs during that week off.
Bottom line, take a week off in between diets and eat right during that week off till your next diet.

      • Ela

        Hi SNK68!
Hope that everything it’s all right for you ☺
At the end…i have the same weight after this week that passed ?.
Maybe my metabolism is bored with the diets…because i have a long time doing diets and i don’t understand why i lose weight so slowly. Anyway..i didn’t say you my weight till now..all this fight that I’m doing is only for 5 kg because my total weight is 67.4 kg and i lost only 4 kg with this diet for 3 weeks (i had 72 kg but with another diet and this diet now,i lost in total 5 kg)…and this makes me crazy when i think what I’ve done so wrong..why i can’t lose weight because i really didn’t eat. I must have only 62-63 kg,this is my perfect weight for me. I decided to do a week off after 3 weeks of this diet. I’ll start next week again and hope that i’ll lose this 5 kg that I’m fighting for ?.
Thank you so much for your support ? and have i nice week ?

          Hi Ela,
I just created an email address where you or anyone else who would want to contact me for more in depth help and advice.
You can reach me at snknight1968 @ hotmail dot com
This way you and any others who would rather not mention their stats, obstacles on a public forum. Can contact me directly and together we can tackle the last few hurdles that’s keeping you from your ultimate goal. Right now, you need to reset your metabolism and start fresh and new in about 7-10 days.
Just insert “7 day soup diet” in the subject line of your email and your first name of course.
And that goes for anyone else who’s unsure or has issues to overcome during their diet.
I don’t know if I am breaking rules by inserting my email address, but I hope the moderators will let it slide as it is for a good cause.

        • SNK68

          Ela,
Ok let me see if I get this straight…your starting weight was 72 kg and is now 67.4 kg. Am I right so far? Plus from you’ve told me, you’re doing multiple different diets at the same time or am I wrong in assuming that?
So, let’s do this, let’s start with a fresh slate with all the information needed.
what is your weight right now? (take it early morning before eating or drinking anything)
          What is your height?
          What is your age?
And what is your final goal for doing this diet?
These are very important questions that need answers before starting. Hence why I implemented my email address for those who would rather not divulge those information in public. So,again here’s where anyone can reach me with any and all questions regarding this 7 day diet plan and soup recipe. snknight1968 @ hotmail dot com

        • Ela

          Hi SNK68!

          Thank you ☺

  88. SNK68

    Hi all,
Well yesterday was day one of week 5 and the start of my third 7 day diet. Four weeks ago, before my first 7 day diet, my starting weight was 221.6, I weighed myself on the morning of day 8 and had lost 16.4 and lost a bit more for 16.8 on day 9th. I continued losing as I had a total loss of 17.4 on day 10th. I did everything right meal wise and I’m happy to say that from day 10th to early morning day 14th (I lost another 1.4 lbs in that second week) for a grand total of 18.8 in 14 days.
My second 7 day diet starting week 3, my starting weight was 203.2 lbs. And I was glad to report that after this second 7 day diet, I lost 13.4 lbs by day 8 early that morning for a total loss of 31,8 lbs after only 3 weeks and doing this diet twice in 3 weeks.
My new weight on that morning was 189.8!!
On day 10th of my third week and second 7 day diet and unlike the first time, I didn’t lose anymore weight. Actually I gained a full pound to bring my weight to 190.8 lbs but after the end of week four, and eating right, I lost a total of 3,2 lbs.
So on day one of week five, my starting weight is 187.6, so I’m already in a win win situation, since my initial goal was 190 lbs.
This is going to be my first time doing this 7 day diet 3 times in a row. So, I don’t really know what to expect and I won’t be too hard on myself since I’ve done good so far. Even though what I just said, I will not sway away or cheat in any way, shape or form during the next 7 days.
    Wish me luck….lol
Oh and has anyone on here ever done this 7 day diet 3 times in a row and if so, what were your results after the third one? Was it worth it? Did you lose enough on the third time to make it worth the hardship of going through this diet a third time?

  89. SNK68

Hey Ted, I have a comment that is awaiting moderation on here and I don’t know how long that will take. It’s a reply to Ela about green leafy vegetables and her not being able to eat those vegetables without adding olive oil.
In my post that is awaiting moderation, I say that olive oil is not recommended in this diet and that she needs to eat green leafy vegetables. I made suggestions as to how to help her by adding lemon juice and seasoning salt to make it easier. I say in my post that you might have suggestions/recommendations to help her out. Check out her comment and if you can chime in, I’m sure she would be very appreciative.

    • Ela

So…i should definitely eat them ?? I can’t eat only soup?
If not…i’ll try to eat them with lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil …maybe this helps me ?
Thank you so much SNK68! Your advices are so helpful for me ?

      • SNK68

Yes you must eat vegetables and no you cannot use olive oil.
Olive oil has too many calories and too much fat, even in a teaspoon.
Read below my previous comments and information on olive oil and salad dressing.

        You’re welcome 🙂

        • Ela

Yes,i read all comments. Thank you for the info ?
I’ll really try to eat them even i don’t like the green vegetables in this way. If there were another tips of vegetables i’ll eat them without problems but…ok,i’ll do my best ?

        • SNK68

Cooking/steaming them (like broccoli, asparagus, brussell sprout) makes it a lot easier to eat them. But if you don’t like those, you can always just eat spinach salad, mix spring salad, green lettuce and use lemon juice and seasoning salt for salad dressing. Or like my previous post said, use low calorie salad dressing, only if you must. Those zesty Italian low calorie salad dressing only have 5 calories per tablespoon. So, if you absolutely must add something to your vegetables, then at least use something that is very low calories and low fat, like the zesty Italian diet salad dressing. Anything that has over 5 calories per tablespoon is a definite no-no during this diet. I would not even use/suggest/recommend low calorie salad dressing during this 7 day diet. I’m just giving you the best option if you absolutely need to add something to help you eat your green veggies.
I’m not trying to make things difficult for you, it’s just that olive oil has too many calories, calories that you do not want during this diet. And those extra calories/fat from olive oil can have a disastrous effect on your end result/number.
In the end, it’s your decision.
It’s a small sacrifice to do for just 7 days. 😉
I previously wrote you a comment and added a link in it, it is still awaiting for a moderator to approve it. The link is of a small list of different green leafy vegetables you can eat. So, check back on here once in a while for that new comment to be posted once it is cleared.
Ela, it’s just 7 days out of your life, try and take advantage of it and make the most out of it.

Your new friend who is rooting for you! 🙂

    • Ted

It’s live now. We don’t work on the weekends, sorry.

      • SNK68

Hey Ted, thanks and I didn’t know you were a moderator on here. So, no apologies needed and thanks for the good work.
As you can read, Ela wanted to use olive oil to help with eating her green veggies and I told her it was a major no-no during this diet and tried to give her different options.
Maybe you can help her with other suggestions/options that I didn’t think of?
She’s starting her 7 day diet today I think and needs options other than using olive oil to help eat her green veggies.
Other than the suggestions I gave her, I don’t know anything else I could think of?

        • Ela

          Hi SNK68 ☺
          Hope you’re ok.
I just read your comment with the link of green vegetables and then with Ted..oh my god thank you for all the information and i sincerely appreciate what’s you’re doing for me ?. I promise you that i’ll eat this green vegetables without oil ?
          Thank you so much ☺

        • SNK68

          Hi Ela,
I am doing good thank you and you?
You’re very welcome and it’s my pleasure to help you and anyone else who wants it, with accurate/proven information regarding this 7 day diet. Keep that promise to yourself, you’re the one doing the diet. If you keep that promise, it will make a big difference in the end and you will succeed!
Like I said in one of my previous post/comment, if you cheat, even a little, then you’re only cheating yourself.
I really appreciate the “thank you” for the posts/comments I’ve posted (not many do), so it’s nice to read, after taking the time to try and help others by posting/answering with well informed comments/posts.
Your success in the end will be thanks enough.
I am looking forward to reading your end result on day 8 early morning. I can’t wait! 🙂
Be strong, you can do this!!
And if ever, whenever you feel like cheating or considering changing things, just come back on here and read the posts/comments of people who have done this diet and succeeded. And read that phrase where you made a promise not to add olive oil or anything else not in the diet.
          Good luck!! 🙂

  90. Ela

    hi everybady 🙂
i’m in the second week of the diet and i lost only 2kg but i think that i did some errors (i’ve read all coments). but the day that i didn’t lost but took wight was the 7th day. i used to eat only integral rise and soup all day and monday (8th day) i was + 400gr and tuesday (9th day ) +400 gr. now i’m on 4th day of second week and i lost 1kg.
for the vegetables i’ve read all coments (especially coments of SNK68) and i know now what to eat but for the fruits i’m not sure what to eat. the diet says all fruits and i used to eat during this day :apple, peach, melon, banana and plums. (i used to eat banana too in the second day but from the coment i read that it’s not right). i think that i’m not well informed for what to eat each day because the diet says the things in general but i understand that some products it’s better to not eat them. so….i think that i need to know better what to eat each day (any name of products)
if i eat many times suop during the day,is there any problem? because the diet said that we can eat as many soup as we can during the day but from the coment i read that isn’t so :/.
i hope that someone can help me 🙂
    thank you!

    • SNK68

      Hi Ela,
Yes you can eat the soup as much and as often as you want, the more the better. But you also have to eat it at different times during the day. Day 1 through day 4 you have to at least eat 3 large bowls spread out at different times. And you eat your fruits and vegetables in between your soup meals. You can only eat 3 bananas on day 4, that’s the only day you can eat bananas. And you have to eat them in between your soup meals.
As for fruits, I eat only cantaloupes and water melon, they are very low in calories.
      Example Day 1;
      8:00 am ; Breakfast, cantaloupe
10:00 am ; Large bowl of soup till you’re full
      12:00 pm ; cantaloupe
2:00 pm ; Large bow of soup till you’re full
      4:00 pm ; cantaloupe
6:00 pm ; large bowl of soup till you’re full
      8:00 pm ; cantaloupe
10:00 pm ; optional large bowl of soup till you’re full

      Example day 2;
      8:00 am ; Breakfast, vegetables
10:00 am ; Large bowl of soup till you’re full
      12:00 pm ; vegetables
2:00 pm ; Large bow of soup till you’re full
      4:00 pm ; vegetables
6:00 pm ; large bowl of soup till you’re full plus 1 baked potato
      8:00 pm ; vegetables
10:00 pm ; optional large bowl of soup till you’re full

      Example Day 3;
      8:00 am ; Breakfast, cantaloupe/veggies
10:00 am ; Large bowl of soup till you’re full/veggies
      12:00 pm ; cantaloupe/veggies
2:00 pm ; Large bow of soup till you’re full/veggies
      4:00 pm ; cantaloupe/veggies
6:00 pm ; large bowl of soup till you’re full/veggies
      8:00 pm ; cantaloupe/veggies
10:00 pm ; optional large bowl of soup till you’re full/veggies

      Example Day 4;
      8:00 am ; Breakfast, banana/skim milk
10:00 am ; Large bowl of soup till you’re full
      12:00 pm ; banana/skim milk
2:00 pm ; Large bow of soup till you’re full
      4:00 pm ; banana/skim milk
6:00 pm ; large bowl of soup till you’re full
      8:00 pm ; cantaloupe/skim milk
10:00 pm ; optional large bowl of soup till you’re full

      Example Day 5;
      8:00 am ; Breakfast, 1 tomato
10:00 am ; small bowl of soup
      12:00 pm ; tomato
2:00 pm ; small bow of soup

      6:00 pm ; 10 ounce steak / 2 tomatos

      4:00 pm ; vegetables
      6:00 pm ; 12 ounce steak / vegetables
      8:00 pm ; vegetables
10:00 pm ; optional small bowl of soup

      Example Day 7;
      8:00 am ; Breakfast, vegetables
10:00 am ; small bowl of soup
      12:00 pm ; vegetables
2:00 pm ; rice and vegetables
      4:00 pm ; vegetables
6:00 pm ; rice /small bowl of soup
      8:00 pm ; vegetables
10:00 pm ; optional small bowl of soup / or rice and veggies

Also, don’t forget to try and drink a gallon of liquid on each day.
And only get on the scale on day 1 early morning before drinking and eating anything and then again only on day 8 early morning before drinking and eating anything.
And if you’re doing the diet twice or 3 times, you have to have a week off in between your 2-3 diets.
      Week 1 soup diet
Week 2 normal healthy eating, 4 meals a day plus two snacks to make for 1250 calories per day maximum
      Week 3 soup diet
Week 4 normal healthy eating, 4 meals a day plus two snacks to make for 1250 calories per day maximum
      Week 5 soup diet

      Hope this helps you?
      Good luck!!

      • Ela

Oh my God ? this is so helpful for me. Thank you so much SNK68! ?

        • SNK68

          Hi Ela,
          You’re very welcome!
Don’t forget, leave that scale alone till day 8 early morning and before eating and drinking anything.
          Good luck!
And let us know your end result. 🙂

        • Ela

I’ll try to stay away from scale ?. Thank you ☺

        • Ela

          Hi SNK68!
Hope that was a beautiful weekend for you ☺.
I will start tomorrow the diet with all the examples that you said. But i have a problem with the green vegetables…i dont like them to much if don’t have olive oil ?. What can i do? If i don’t eat tham and use to eat only the soup is there any problem?
          Thank you!

        • SNK68

          Hi Ela,
I’m having a nice weekend thank you, and you?
You can cook your vegetables, steam or boil in a bit of water. Then add seasoning salt and lemon juice.
You need those vegetables to help balance your nutrition.
You can cook broccoli, asparagus, brussell sprout. and make a salad with mix spring salad with adding lemon juice with seasoning salt. If you must add olive oil, less is more. If you absolutely have to add olive oil, make sure it’s a very small amount. Just understand that by adding olive oil, you are using an ingredient that is not recommended in this diet. But you definitely need to eat green vegetables in this diet. You absolutely need to eat green vegetables. Maybe “Ted” on here, might have some good advice on green vegetables options.
Here’s a link to good green leaf vegetables….

          Ela,
Here’s the nutritional value of olive oil…

        • SNK68

          Ela,
While I was trying to find other alternatives to replace olive oil for eating your green vegetables, I looked in my fridge at my salad dressing I use when I am not doing this diet.
I don’t know where you live or what are your grocery stores named. But, I use a store brand named zesty Italian 90% less fat salad dressing. It’s from the grocery store “Super C” and it’s their store brand “selection” salad dressing.
And for 1 tablespoon, it’s only 5 calories, 0.3 grams fat, 1 gram sugar.
So, if you must absolutely add something to be able to eat your vegetables, then use that instead of olive oil.

      • Amanda

Can I leave out the beef broth and add half a package extra of the Lipton chicken noodle to the soup?

        • SNK68

          Hi Amanda,
No, I totally recommend against it, that’s a total change of ingredients. Which in turn changes the calorie intake and other nutritional values, like carbs, sugar, sodium and so on.
The low fat beef/chicken broth is a key ingredient to this soup recipe.

  91. Megan

Hi,I read all the comments I just want to know should I drink lemon+hot water when I wake up or its better to do without drinking it?

    • SNK68

      Hi Megan,
You can do both, I refereed to drinking lemon water to help with drinking your gallon of liquid per day but also in an other post that specified lemon water as a cleanse. I would drink it cold like a juice to replace just drinking water on it’s own. I just hate drinking normal water that much…lol
There are many lemon water recipe cleanse on youtube or google. Most say that by boiling your lemon water, you take out the nutrients of it. Others say to add ginger and zest of lemons and lemon juice plus honey and all that stuff. I would just drink it cold and fresh to help drink more liquid per day, that way you get both benefits.
      Make sense?

      • SNK68

Just to make sure there’s no miss-understanding, during this 7 day diet, if you do drink lemon water daily, do not add honey to it. Not while doing this diet.
Best wishes and keep us posted. 🙂

  92. SNK68

    Hi folks,
Well today is day 8 of my third week and the end of my second 7 day diet. I started my second 7 day diet on the beginning of the third week. 3 weeks ago my starting weight was 221.6 and after 7 days I weighed myself on the morning of day 8 and had lost 16.4 and lost a bit more for 16.8 on day 9th. I continued losing as I had a total loss of 17.4 on day 10th.
I did everything right meal wise and I was happy to say that from day 10th to early morning day 14th (I had lost another 1.4 lbs in those few days) for a grand total of 18.8 in 14 days.
So my starting weight 7 days ago was 203.2 and I felt great mentally and up to the challenge. My goal for the second time around was to lose 13 lbs.
I did everything by the book, I also even made a little more soup so that this second time around, I would have enough soup left on day 7 to have 2 large bowls or 3 smaller bowls.
And I am glad to report that after this second 7 day diet, I lost 13.4 lbs by day 8 early this morning for a total loss of 31,8 lbs after only 3 weeks and doing this diet twice in 3 weeks.
My new weight as of this morning is 189.8!!
And I feel great, energized, happy and so upbeat that I am contemplating doing it a third time starting on the 1 st of next month. This second time around was actually so much better in every way. I did everything right, made more soup to start with, followed the regiment to a “T”, nothing added, nothing modified (other than not eating as many steaks as recommended on day 6), forcing myself to drink about a gallon a day of liquids.
For the next 2 days, I’m going to eat right with 4 already made meals plus 2 healthy snacks a day for a total of 1250 calories and check my weight again on day 10th.
The only other way to lose that much weight (body fat) in such a short time, is to go on “Survivor”!
This diet works, as long as you follow it to a “T”, period!

    • SNK68

Well today is day 10th of my second 7 day diet and unlike the first time, I didn’t lose anymore weight. Actually I gained a full pound. 🙁
I had a few extra peanut butter toasts yesterday and went over my 1250 calories and it seems like the cost is a 1 lbs gain.
You can’t always lose and I’m ok with it.
I intend on doing it a third time starting on the 1st of next month. Even though I reached my goal of 190 lbs (190.8 lbs as of right now), I think that I can lose another double digit number by doing it a third time. Because the second time was actually easier than the first time. I haven’t weighed 180 lbs in over 10 years, so I’m curious to see if I can achieve it. If I can, it will give me extra wiggle room to maintain 185-190 lbs and make it easier.

  93. Eda

Hi,I want to start this diet but I wanna know can i drink normal coffee with brown sugar? About the exercise part instead of walking can I do some home exercises that are on youtube “Lumodell 7 minute” and jumping the rope? What do you think? I am 22 year,173 lbs.

    • SNK68

      Hi Eda,
You can drink only black coffee, no sugar at all. Also, all juices you drink must be unsweetened.
And as for your exercise, yes you absolutely can, but keep the first 4 days to a minimum. I have posted 3 long detailed comments on here, first one is a reply to “Ashley” and starts by
“On day 3 you should have…”<<2nd one is the follow up right under it.
And the 3rd one is "FAQ+Tips&Tricks"
These should help and answer all questions and if you have any other questions that are not in there, just let me know.

      • Rosalinda

I’m my 3rd day of this diet. So far so good. I have a question. Can I put vanilla extract in my coffee and skim milk for day 4?

        • SNK68

          Hi Rosalinda,
Vanilla extract is a no no during this diet.

  94. Kim

I am starting this diet today. My concern is the exercise part. I walk on my breaks and lunch every week day and also three times a week like to go to the gym for an hour on the bycicle, eleptical machine and rowing machine. I really like it and it helps boost me emotionally and physically. Is it okay to do this on this diet?? Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a great day.

    • SNK68

      Hi Kim,
The answer to your question is already answered in many previous posts/comments on here. Read, FAQ+Tips&Tricks that I took the time to write. And also, from what you wrote, you sound like someone who’s already fit, since you do a lot of cardio.
What’s your age, height/weight and goal using this diet?
There is a lot of information posted on here by many people who have done this diet, I’m sure you’ll find all the answers to any and all question you might have. If you have any other questions that are not answered in all the many posts/comments already posted, just let me know and I’ll try (as others will do also) to answer and help you out.

  95. SNK68

My opinion, drink Diet Ocean’s Spray cranberry juice a bit more than usual. Someone might be better at answering that question than me, there are other types of milks but how are they calories wise, protein wise, fat wise compared to skim milk?

Oh and if you do this diet, post what was the hardest part and what is your end result?
During your 7 days, if you’re having difficulties, get on here or other forums and you’ll get encouragement and support through the process.

    • SNK68

A friend of mine who’s doing this diet as we speak, asked me about a “cheat day”. I said, if someone does this diet and sticks to it for those 7 straight days and eats calorie wise for day 8 and 9. Let’s call it a “reward day” instead. Yes, you definitely deserve a “reward day”, but that doesn’t mean you go to McDonald’s and get a double Big Mac meal with 6 McNuggets and a giant coke.
That’s 1800+ calories right there in one meal. Don’t blow all your hard work for such a meal. On day 10 of my first 7 day diet, I went to Subways and got a foot long steak and cheese on whole wheat bread with lettuce and tomatoes. I ate that sub into 2 meals, two 6 inches, one for lunch and the other for supper. And it was very enjoyable. So, yes have a “reward day on day 10, but be careful and don’t risk all your hard work for junk food.

      • SNK68

Someone asked me about what I said in an earlier post about fighters doing similar diets in their last week before weigh ins, and that they gain back all they lost on the day of their fight. Meaning that all they lost was mostly water. Yes, that’s true but fighters (Boxing/MMA) also go through a rough regiment of dehydration 3 days before weigh ins. Before the new rules that was changed a while back, fighters can no longer use IV for help to rehydrate after weigh ins.
2-3 days before weigh ins, fighters do a rigorous dehydration, where they lose tons of water and gain it back before the fight.
Since that rule (no more IV’s), many fighters can’t cut the weight and missed weight on weigh ins. They lose so much water that’s it’s not just unhealthy but also dangerous.
But for us common folks, we don’t even come close to losing that much water, we actually burn more body fat than lose water.
Yes, we have to drink a lot of fluids during this diet, but not to lose water or dehydrate, but rather to help evacuate “get rid of” the burnt body fat. Like I also said in a previous post, I have to force myself to drink close to a gallon of fluids a day during this diet. I’ll have a few black coffees during the day, a few glasses of water and I drink a lot of Diet Ocean’s Spray Cranberry juice. On day 4, I drink about two liters of skim milk, I love milk so that’s easy. But I don’t drink as much on the other days, I try real hard to drink 4-5 tall glasses of water a day plus what I’ve said above. Anyways, the point I am trying to make is, we don’t do the same regiment of losing water like athletes/boxers/mma figthers do. So no worries, you are burning body fat and not just losing water. Just try to drink as much as you can and diversify your choices of fluids to make it easier.

  96. Nancy Nox

I am on day 3. The first day Iost 2 lbs. Now I am back to my original weight and I have been very faithful. Also exercise every day.

    • SNK68

      Hi Nancy,
You’re doing good, and easy on the exercise for the first 4 days. You don’t have enough proteins and calories to sustain your metabolism. If you do too much heavy exercise, you’ll burn muscles instead of bodyfat.
Also, from day one early morning, till day 8 early morning, try and stay away from your scale!
During the diet, your scale can be your own worst enemy.
Make sure you get lot’s of fluids (water best) so to help evacuate what you’re burning. I personally have to force myself to drink water. What I am missing in water, I compensate with diet OCEAN’s SPRAY cranberry juice (10 calories per 250 ml and no sugar).
Trust me, leave your scale alone till day 8 early morning. And remember, your body might still be in fat burning mode on day 8 and 9 if you eat healthy on those 2 days. Get on the scale day 8 and then again day 10, you might be surprised. Sometimes you lose some during those days or you stay the same. Nothing wrong either way. What matters the most is day 8 early morning.

    • SNK68

      Hi Nancy,
Today is day 8, how did you do?

  97. SNK68

    Hi folks,
Well I’m starting my second 7 day diet today. And this is where I stand so far. 2 weeks ago my starting weight was 221.6 and after 7 days I weighed myself on the morning of day 8 and had lost 16.4 and lost a bit more for 16.8 on day 9th. I continued losing as I had a total loss of 17.4 on day 10th.
Now 3 things can happen in between the ending of your first diet to the start of another a week later. You can just keep your weight steady or lose a bit more or maybe gain a bit in between.
I did everything right meal wise and I’m happy to say that from day 10th to early this morning (I lost another 1.4 lbs in this past week) for a grand total of 18.8 in 14 days.
So today on day first of my second 7 day diet, my starting weight is 203.2 and I’m feeling ok mentally and up to the challenge. Even though the idea of eating that soup for another 7 days just sucks! My goal this second time around is 13 lbs loss and I hope I don’t sway away in the process. Next time I check my weight will be day 8, next Wednesday. If anyone else is starting this diet soon or has started a few days ago, heck post your progress and results once done.
Good luck to everyone and may you all reach your goals.

  98. Jen k

Can you drink sweet tea, or just non sweetened tea?

    • SNK68

Non sweetened everything and anything is the best way to go.

  99. Lee

Is this beef “Ground Beef” ?

    • SNK68

I’ve always ate steaks but I guess ground beef might work if it was extra lean ground beef. I’m an extreme carnivore and if I was to eat as many steaks as I want on day 6, it would ruin and backfire on me. Heck you tell a guy like me to eat as many steaks as I want and I’ll eat a 12 ounce steak for breakfast, a 24 ounce prime rib au jus for lunch and supper. Hence why I only eat between a 10 to 12 ounce steak on day 5 and 6. I’ve never used ground beef in this diet myself but maybe others on here have?

  100. SNK68

Well today was day 8 and my weight in the morning showed I lost 16.4 lbs, I truly believed I would/could of reached 17 lbs loss but no cigar. I think the fact that on day 7, I hardly had 1 bowl of soup left and it was a small bowl. If I had 2 large bowls of soup left for day 7, I believe I would of finally reached the 17 lbs goal. But I’ll wait and see what my final number is tomorrow morning as I know that the body still burns fat on day 8 and 9, depending on how good you eat on those 2 days.

    • SNK68

Day 9 early morning on that scale, final result 16.8 lbs loss.
I got on that scale like 6 times hoping to see that magical 17 lbs loss show at least once but to no avail, so close yet so far.
But I am in a good place mentally and am confident to being able to do another 7 days starting next Wednesday. Went shopping for groceries this morning and only acquired the right foods to eat healthy and calorie wise till next Wednesday.
4 small meals a day plus 2 snacks with right proportions of food groups and daily calorie intake of 1250 max total each day.
Now I can include some minimal exercise, like 45 mins evening walks each day till next Wednesday which should help shed 2 to 3 lbs more. I know that the second time, I won’t lose as much as I did the first time, I should in theory lose at least another 10-13 lbs, so I’m confident that after everything is said and done, my total weight loss for a 3 week period should be between 28 and 30 lbs loss. Unless I screw up this week till next Wednesday, that’s the hard part.

YAY!!! Day 10 and I usually leave the scale alone during or more after I’m done my 9th day. But this morning , curiosity got the better of me. I got on the scale even though I was worried to have gained back maybe 1 lbs or 2, but to my pleasure and after eating right from day 8 to 10 (with already made meals with a range of 280 to 320 calories per meals) for a total of 1250 calorie intake daily for those past 3 days and to my surprise and pleasure, I am now down 17.4 lbs !!! First time in like 20 years doing this damn diet have I reached the 17 lbs loss. And there’s no mistakes as I got on the scale like 10 times in a row to make sure….lol!!!
Like I keep telling people, your body might still be burning fat after your 7 days if you eat right and do some walking. Yeah from day 6 to day 10, I implement one 45 minutes walk in the evening, even though some have suggested it’s better to do that walk in the morning before eating anything. I personally just can’t get up and go for a walk in the morning. But I can in the evening and today’s result shows it.

In day five I don’t like tomatoes is there something else I can substitute

    • Ted

Just substitute it with 2 cups of a non-starchy vegetable of your choice.

      • SNK68

        Hey Ted,
Thanks for the info on possibly substituting the tomatoes for day 5 for 2 cups of non-starchy of vegetables.
But my question is, eating 6 tomatoes is more than just 2 cups of other vegetables. Are you sure that just 2 cups is enough?
I eat my 6 tomatoes like apples, 3 with my steak meal and 3 like a snack. I know that the tomatoes added in this diet is due for it’s health benefits for the heart and it helps with weight loss, therefore it’s only normal to be in this diet which is mostly for people suffering of heart problems, diabetes and obesity.
And you definitely seem to know your stuff, so please if you don’t mind can you give me a few examples of substitutes (vegetables or fruits) that has the same benefits of the tomatoes and that I can use on day 5 instead of the tomatoes?
        Thanks!

        • Ted

I was going with the can of tomatos recommendation. As for the 6 tomatoes, there isn’t a reference for the size, so it’s hard to make a comparison there.

        • SNK68

Oh ok, I eat tomatoes that are apple size so hence my question of the 2 cups size to replace 6 apple size tomatoes. 1 tomato is about a cup (maybe a even little more).
And what vegetables would you recommend as a substitute? I’m just asking for others on here, as I myself have no problems eating my 6 tomatoes. But other readers might be interested in your suggestions instead of guessing and maybe going off track.
          Thanks for the reply!

        • Ted

1, 4.3-ounce tomato is about 22 calories so you could eat the equivalent of 132 calories in another non-starchy vegetable.

      • Shawnda Reese

        Thank so for the information

    • SNK68

Whether you refer to a tomato as a fruit or a vegetable, there is no doubt that a tomato is a nutrient-dense, super-food that most people should be eating more of.

The tomato has been referred to as a “functional food,” a food that goes beyond providing just basic nutrition. Due to their beneficial phytochemicals such as lycopene, tomatoes also play a role in preventing chronic disease and deliver other health benefits

Despite the popularity of the tomato, only 200 years ago it was thought to be poisonous in the U.S., likely because the plant belongs to the nightshade family, of which some species are truly poisonous.

Possible health benefits of tomatoesBunch of tomatoes
Tomatoes are packed full of beneficial nutrients and antioxidants and are a rich source of vitamins A and C and folic acid.
The benefits of consuming fruits and vegetables of all kinds, including tomatoes, are impressive. As the proportion of plant foods in the diet increases, the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer goes down.

High fruit and vegetable intake is also associated with healthy skin and hair, increased energy and lower weight. Increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables significantly decreases the risk of obesity and overall mortality.

  102. SNK68

I am in my late 40’s and have used this diet many times and have averaged 13 lbs loss on the first week, waited 7 days to do it again. In that week in the middle I gained back about 3 lbs but lost another 12 lbs on the second time. Also changed my diet to being healthier for the next 2 weeks and not only did I keep 22 lbs total I had lost but also lost another 5 lbs for a total loss of 27 lbs in one month.
Having experimented a few times in my first few trials of this diet, I have found that if you cheat or change things in the slightest, you’re screwing yourself and wasting your time. This diet only works if you absolutely do it exactly as detailed.
Best way to do it, just tell yourself it’s just 7 days out of your life.
So, I repeat, DO NOT CHEAT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM!

P.S This diet is best done in winter or cool season, eating hot soup during hot days sucks!

    • SNK68

Oh and I have two things to add, on steak days, I only ate 12 ounce steaks on both days, not more than that. Also, the spices to add in this soup are not mentioned on here even though they are also important to speed up your metabolism. So here’s what you need to help the soup and for taste of course…
Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley, italian seasonings, curry – whatever you prefer.
But the curry and garlic in my opinion makes a huge difference taste wise.

  103. Clyde

I tried the diet for a week and I lost 15 lbs but it is not enough as I am 220 lbs and I would like to lose 80-90 lbs and I have continued using isagenix products and then I will repeat the sacred heart diet again and I hope to lose some weight.

    • SNK68

Clyde, my walking weight is also 220-225 lbs and I have found that this diet cannot be used as a longterm way of losing and keeping off the weight. But if you want to lose the most in a 30 day period, he’s what worked for me. !st of the month I start this soup diet and lost on average 13 lbs, then was careful and ate healthy and calculated portions 4 times a day for the next 7 days.
Did the soup diet a second time on the third week and lost an average of 12 lbs. With one week to go for my goal, I ate healthy and conscientious portions. When I do this, I lose the 22 some lbs after 4 weeks. Now here’s times I did something extra and lost another 10 lbs for two weeks by doing a lemon water cleanse for 14 days. <I only did this twice and it worked on both times. Lost close to 32 lbs in 6 weeks. I did this more than once but the attempts that didn't work were times when I cheated just a little. Was a total waste of time and hardship. That's why I am so adamant when saying do not change anything or try something different than what is detailed. I am doing this exact 6 week diet starting on the 1st of this month, Also I have to note, I did not do any extra exercise other than just an average of a 45 minute long walk every second day.
      That's what worked for me.

      • SNK68

I forgot to say, something that helps during your off week diet is buying those healthy already made meals at the grocery store. Very often you can get 4 for $10, this takes away the guessing game regarding healthy meals for the weeks you’re off the soup.
You eat 4 a day with 2 healthy snacks and you’re metabolism is right on track. If you have the will to do this for 6 weeks without cheating once, in theory you should be able to lose 30+lbs and if you really want to go hardcore , then do another one back to back.
        1st week soup diet
2nd week healthy already made meals
        3 third week soup diet
4th and 5th week healthy already made meals, plus lemon water cleansing << google the lemon water cleanse
6th weeks healthy diet, already made meals
Your healthy meals when off soup diet should be 1250 total calories intake daily. No more and no less, you need those to regulate your metabolism and tricking it that it doesn't need more calories and if it does, it will take it from your stored body fat.
Now, if you can and really want to shed more, then just repeat all over again for another 6 weeks.
After a total of 12 weeks, your losses should be 60+ lbs (If you didn't cheat once) I've achieved losing 30+lbs in 6 weeks more than 5-6 times myself (not counting my early trials where I cheated) and have seen people I knew (friends) lose more than 60+lbs by doing it back to back.
Though I've witnessed my friends being a little grumpy on the doing it back to back….ok I lied, very grumpy….lol

        • Marlene

Okay. I am going to give this a try. I am presently in the process of moving, but as soon as I do I think it would be a good time. I have a slow thyroid and someone in my family said this reset their metabolism and they no longer have thyroid problems. Anyone else here heard of that?

        • SNK68

I just finished cooking my batch for the week and starting tomorrow day 1. I just recently went for blood work because my doctor thinks I might have a thyroid issue after discussing certain symptoms. I’m seeing him on the 27th of this month for the results. So, keep me posted if the soup does reset and helps with your thyroid problem, I’d really like to know?

        • SNK68

          Hi Marlene, any new updates?
I went to see my Doc today, thought it was on the 27th but it was the 21st. Anyways, my thyroid is good but I did ask my Doc to have me do more blood work just to double check since I’ve done this diet twice in the last 3 weeks. When my Doc saw me today, he was stunned at my loss of weight and asked me if I had been sick or something. I told him no and told him about doing this diet. He scold me a bit saying losing that much weight that fast can be unhealthy, I told him, you give me a diet that makes me lose that amount of weight in that time frame without killing myself in a gym and I’ll follow it. He said there’s nothing out there that’s 100% healthy that could make someone lose so much weight that fast. He knows about those kind of soup diet but never recommended to anyone or had someone (a patient) actually do any of them. He then congratulated me on my success and asked me to email him the diet soup recipe and 7 day plan…..lol
I never told him the diet name because this diet has nothing to do with the sacred heart hospital. This diet has been around for decades. Like old homemade self remedies. He asked me to get on his scale and I said yes on the condition to not tell me the number. Today being day 7, I want to find out tomorrow morning by myself and under the same conditions I took it on day 1.
Seeing him again on the 18th of April for new blood work results.

  104. Maureen

I did this soup diet, lost 12 lbs in one week. I did it to get back on track with my weight. I don’t believe there is any diet out there that will take your weight off and keep it of . you are suppose to be in control of that. it worked for me.

    • Matt

I agree I also took this diet. I lost seventeen pounds. After you lost weight (fat and water). Just watch yourself. Don’t eat at night while watching T.V and stay away from junk like pizza. Work out!!! You will feel great. Your life is better. You are a better personn

  105. Carolyn

Can you switch days like day 4 for day 5

    • Ted

      Yes, you can.

    • SNK68

I definitely urge you not to. The sequence is like the specific mix of food intake you take. It is set to work best the way it is written.
Trust me, I’ve done this diet many times and experienced many different ways at first, thinking what’s the difference. Those early trials taught me to stick to the program and sequence of the original diet. Also, on this wepbage it doesn’t say to add spices, curry more specifically. The spices increase your metabolism therefore it helps burning fat rather than all water.

      • aSHLEY

can you make like stir-fry’s? the day you’re supposed to eat all those tomatoes and vegetables can I make like a spaghetti sauce and have it over baked spaghetti squash? or is it best to keep it to raw veggies?

        • SNK68

          aSHLEY,
I’ve never done a stir-fry like you mentioned so I wouldn’t know. It does sound delicious though. All I know is, every time (in the first few times I did this diet) , any changes or modifications from the suggested original plan, it screwed my numbers. I call it my trial and error phase. Instead of losing the average 13 lbs after 7 days, I’d lose like only 5-6 lbs, things I changed like adding salad dressing, butter on my veggies, or skipped soup for an entire day, either added different veggies or skipped on certain ingredients and so on. My friend that recommended this diet for me years ago, gave me hell when I told her about modifying anything….lol
She looked at me, said “here’s the ingredients needed and 7 day plan and stick to it”, I never changed anything again and my average has always been around 13 + lbs loss.
If you do, do it, let me know how it went please?

        • Ashley

When did you start noticing the weight loss? I’m on day 3 tomorrow and I’m still at the same weight. I did fry mushrooms onion asparagus broccoli colliflower and peppers tonight, no butter just Braggs seasoning which is like a soy sauce but not… and of course the soup.. it definitely filled me up because I forgot to eat the baked potato. I’m curious if I should only be eating raw vegetables though.. I can get creative to make it easier but maybe it shouldn’t be easy to get the results I want?

        • SNK68

          Hi Ashley,
On day 3 you should have a minimal weight loss, between 2-3 lbs at least. You’ve done what pretty much everybody does, modifying the original to make it easier. Don’t worry, I’ve done it and many others will do it too.
          You said …
“I can get creative to make it easier but maybe it shouldn’t be easy to get the results I want?”
You’re absolutely right, think about your statement and what the diet goal is. This diet is saying that you can lose between 10 and 17 lbs in 7 days, if it was that easy, everyone would do it. Not giving you grief, just answering in all honesty to help you out.
Follow the diet to the letter, anything else and you’re screwing yourself and going through a hardship for less than what you can get out of it. Meaning, let’s say you lose 6-9 lbs in 7 days but you know that had you followed the plan to a “T”, you could of lost up to 17 lbs instead?
Which number would you prefer, considering you’re going through the same hardship but not getting the full return for it?
I tell this to everyone because everyone (me included) have done the same thing, trying to cut corners and make it easier. You’ve added different ingredients (mushrooms, cauliflower, Braggs seasoning and stir fried it all). And didn’t eat your needed baked potato. Everything in this diet has a purpose and each day ingredients has a purpose as well. I can’t say that what you’ve done is without a doubt wrong, but what I can say is, every time that I’ve done this diet (first few times) and swayed away from the original recipe and day plan, I got screwed.
For me getting screwed means I lost only between 6-9 lbs for 7 days of hardship. But every time I did it and stuck to it for the 7 days with original as per detailed, I lost 12 lbs to 16.5 lbs in 7 days. I’ve never reached the 17 lbs yet but it’s looking damn good this week as I am on day 2 and almost 2 lbs down. First, you lose a bit of water, clean your bowels, and burn fat on the first 3 days I would say.
The concept of this diet is shocking your metabolism in the first few days where you go from high calorie intake to almost none. Your body goes in emergency mode sort to speak and has to get the missing calories from somewhere (body fat). If you do exercise then you will burn muscles instead of body fat.
We all go through the same phases. People who have more to lose, will lose the biggest amount in 7 days (if they stick to it).
I’m 5’11” and 220 lbs and in my late 40’s. My goal when I do this diet is to drop to 190 lbs in 6 weeks of resolve. I’m happy with 190 to 200 lbs. But let’s say I started/was slimmer like 200 lbs, it would be harder to drop 17 lbs than when I’m at 220 lbs. The only thing I have modified to this diet is my red meat intake on day 5 and 6, I eat only one 10 ounce steak on each day, because anymore doesn’t work for my metabolism and I lose less weight.
I’ll write down what people will go through for you and others that might want to do this diet.

First day: you crave for everything (especially junk food) and you notice every food commercials on tv…lol
You need minimum of 3 large bowls of soup on first day with your low calorie fruits. Leave the scale alone!
Day 2; You don’t really want to eat soup for breakfast and you’re feeling hungry, eat the soup and push through (at least 3 meals of soup with your veggies (green leafs best).
The baked potato is needed for your potassium and the taste is quite welcomed. There’s a reason why you don’t eat bananas on day 2 for your potassium, because bananas have more calories than a potato. Leave the scale alone!
Day 3: You’re questioning yourself and your resolve to lose the weight with this diet. So, eat all the fruits (low calorie no bananas) and veggies you can along with at least 3 small bowls of soup. Tomorrow gets better. Leave the scale alone!
Day 4: Bananas and skim milk are god sent and you feel a bit better, eat at least 2 big bowls or 3 small bowls of soup even though that now you’re really starting to get fed up with the soup. Come on, you’ve got 4 days done, don’t give up and hold fast. Only 3 days to go, you can do this! Leave the scale alone!
Day 5: YES! Steak!! Just follow up , eat at least one big bowl of soup (or two smaller bowls at different times) and enjoy your steak! Don’t forget your tomatoes! I eat 6 small tomatoes like apples during the evening, some with my steak and some after a little later. You’re 5 days in and 2 to go, so don’t you dare freaking give up at this time. It’s all downhill from now. Leave the scale alone!
Day 6: Steak and veggies plus at least one good bowl of soup or two smaller ones in the day. Leave the scale alone !
Day 7: Just follow the daily plan and you’re almost there. The thought of changing things feels appealing to you right now, you want to eat something different and you’re thinking how can it hurt? Don’t! This is the last day, stand fast and do exactly what you’re suppose to do, YOU HAVE TO EAT AT LEAST ONE BIG BOWL OF SOUP no matter how much you hate it about now.
          Leave the scale alone!
Day 8: morning, ok check the scale before eating or drinking and even better after doing your morning number 2, see where you’re at and don’t binge on junk food today, eat small meals at least 3 plus 2 healthy snacks. Your body might still be burning fat on day 8 and 9, if you don’t binge so your final number should be day 9 early morning before eating and drinking anything.
          Congratulation !!! You did it!!
If you didn’t lose between 10 lbs and 17 lbs in those 7 days, then you cheated somewhere and only cheated yourself.
Tips: When I do this diet, the only thing in my fridge are the soup, fruits and veggies for those 7 days. Out of sight out of mind when it comes to cheating, if you don’t have it, you won’t eat it.

        • SNK68

For those who took the time to read my previous long comments and this one, here’s the facts you need to know.
This diet works, it burns body fat and you’re not just going to lose water. It also cleans your system.
It doesn’t matter who created this diet or who denies it.
          It works, period!
This diet or others similar to it has been used by fighters boxing/mma for when they need to cut weight for a fight on their last week before weigh ins.
Losing that much weight before a fight is still questionable and some will say ill advised, due to lost of energy, dehydration and quick turn around the day of the fight.
But for us common folks and our purpose, it’s quite effective.
Let me make sure you understand one or two things.
If you are already fit and have a low body fat percentage, losing 17 lbs is not advised or healthy. And much tougher to achieve. Meaning, if you’re a woman who’s height is 5’8″ and 125 lbs, don’t expect to lose 17 lbs to fit that little spaghetti black dress better, because you don’t need to do this diet, I’m sure you already make that dress look great at 125 lbs and honestly you could gain a few more lbs in my opinion. Like me for example, if I was 190 lbs and do this diet, I would probably lose 9-11 lbs max because my body fat would not be as high as it is at 220 lbs.
The higher your body fat, the more you could/should lose. If you’re fit and do this diet, you will also burn muscle and less body fat, so please reconsider this before doing this diet.
Let me be very honest with you, I absolutely hate doing this diet and even more doing it twice back to back.
But I hate weighing 220 lbs even more, so that’s my motivation. And I love reaching my goal of 190 lbs just before the summer. But that’s me and whatever each one of us has for motivation, we probably have the same reasons and goals.
There are variations of this diet that says you can substitute beef steaks for fish or chicken. Yes, that’s true and those two will give you as much proteins as a steak, except not the same amount of iron, which by day 5 and 6 is very needed for energy.
Listen, the concept is quite simple and you only really need to know one thing. The more soup you eat, the more lbs you will lose. The more you cheat or divert by changing ingredients on the days, the less you will lose.
Exercise tips, first 3-4 days keep it to a minimal like just walking and your usual activities. Starting day 5 to 7, I highly recommend walking for 45 minutes extra of your normal activities. No need for fast pace or anything extra, just a nice 45 minutes walk. It will not only burn calories, it will help with your hunger and intake of your last few soup meals. By day 5 to 7 your pot of soup should look low and just enough to finish through day 5 and 7.
I’ve run into the issue of not having enough soup to finish my last 2 days so therefore I’ve made a bigger pot of soup to start with. Added an extra can of stewed tomatoes and just a little more of each of the ingredients so that I can have an inch or two more of water above the veggies.
That’s how much I stick to it and follow through on the more soup I eat, the more lbs I lose. But I still hate it.
But of course, making more soup depends on ones appetite and different individual sizes to start with.
This works and it’s really only 7 days out of your life, so remember that whenever you feel like saying “screw it, I’m done”, it is worth doing for 7 days.
          Good luck!

        • aSHLEY

here to report I only lost 9 lbs. I am going to start it again on the 27th and stick to it to a T this time. Thank you for all your input – very appreciated.

        • SNK68

          Hi aSHLEY,
Congratulations on your 9 lbs loss, it’s still good.
Now you know that this diet does work and what you need to do to get the full benefit. Be careful how you eat till the 27th, you don’t want to gain it back, especially knowing you’re doing it again in a couple of weeks.
I am starting my second one today actually and my friends say I am a masochist for doing it twice in only 3 weeks. Third week starting today, heck I was making my batch of soup yesterday around 2 am…lol
Keep posting your progress and results, it will help you and others on here. And feel free to ask any questions no matter how small or big. I comeback to my own posts and use them to remind me why I am doing this and it’s encouraging to read that I’m not alone suffering through this diet. I’ll start a new post as to my entire progression on doing it back to back within only 3 weeks.

      • ela

hey Steve! where are you?? :/

      • ela

        ?

  106. Jennifer

This is not the correct recipe for the soup. DO NOT include anything chicken noodle. I’ve used this diet without the chicken noodle in the soup and had great results. This is just not the original version. Too many revisions have become permanent thanks to the Internet.

    • SNK68

The soup mix is just for taste and doesn’t affect good or bad in the end result. Meaning, you will lose the same amount of lbs with the chicken noodle soup mix than without.

      • Lisa

I want to make sure I prepare the soup correctly…..can you please tell me how much water I am to ass, the part where It say “cover with water” is that for the vegetables only and then add all the other ingredients???

        • Lisa

oh my ADD…..im sorry typing to fast!!! my apoligies

        • SNK68

          Hi Lisa,
No worries about the typo, it made me laugh even though I knew what you meant…lol
To answer your question, you put everything in your pot (all ingredients) and then you add water enough to cover everything. Yes your veggies will float but it should show at least 2 inches of water above everything.
Me, I have to add more of everything because the original recipe is not enough as I really go for the concept of the more soup you eat, the more lbs you lose.
Just remember, it’s suppose to be a soup and not a meal, so you must have enough liquid. Best way, look where your veggies end up before adding the water, then make a visual mark 2 inches higher than the veggies and add your water accordingly to hit that 2 inches above the veggies. Make sense?

  107. Jason

Does it matter if the soup is blended?

    • SNK68

I wouldn’t blend it but hey if it works for you and you don’t change any ingredients, then so be it. I have to admit, I would not be able to eat that soup if blended. I like having something to chew on and those baby carrots are nice and make it feel like a meal more than a soup. But if you do it, please let us know how it worked out for you ?

      • LB

I love it blended. I put it in a soup cup and drink it because I hate eating food. I do not blend a lot. Just pulse it about 5 times enough to drink with small amount of chewing.

    • Amanda

I blend mine and I actually prefer it that way

I have used this diet to get me “back on track” for the first week when I get “off track” with eating healthy and have found it useful for that purpose. It makes me laugh when I read things about this diet that say its bad because you will gain the weight back after you stop the diet and will have to repeat it. This is true of any diet in the world including “changing your eating habits as a lifestyle change”. Most people who make lifestyle changes have periods where they get off track (particularly during the holidays) and no matter what diet, change or lifestyle you choose, if you stop doing it you will gain the weight back. So if you’re looking for any diet that will make you lose weight and keep it off forever no matter what you do afterwards, it does not exist.

    • Donna

This is so true! I use this diet to kick start a period of healthier eating. It is pretty low carb. I usually do keto eating afterwards, but I alternate days of very few carbs with “healthy carb days”, so my hormones don’t get too grumpy. 2-3 days of keto eating, then 1-2 days of healthy carbs. It works for me. It makes me get off of processed junkfood- no white flour and sugar. The soup is a great tool for anyone trying to eat keto. You can have as much of it as you want. The soup keeps for like a week, since it doesn’t have meat. It’s cheap, healthy and delicious.

  109. Michele

Can I eat fruit as well on day 5 and 6? It doesn’t appeal to me to eat meat for breakfast.

    • Ted

The meat is there to help with getting protein while on the diet. Fruit has very little protein.

    • Bet

Yo can sub cheese for the meat. I have and it works.

    • SNK68

Yes you can but like Ted said, you need the meat protein and iron that comes with a beef meal. You don’t have to eat your steak for breakfast, keep it for supper. Same thing on day 6, eat your meat either at lunch or supper or both and eat fruits/veggies for breakfast.
For the record, no I would not substitute meat protein for cheese protein. If you really dislike beef, then at least substitute it for another meat protein like chicken or fish. On day 5 and 6, you need an animal protein for your metabolism.

  110. sultan

where i can buy the soup

    • Ted

you have to make the soup yourself.

  111. Mandi

Can you drink natural sparkling water? Zero calorie, zero sugar, zero soduium etc

    • Ted

      yes

  112. Dave

    Lost 18lb in one week
Felt and looked great so went out on a Bing for about 2 months.
    Didn’t help
Will start again but this time I have rejoined the gym and I’m already back to running 10 after a month training

    • SNK68

Dave, while on this diet, don’t do too much exercise as you will burn muscle more than body fat. The soup is a zero calorie intake with little protein. So while doing the 7 day diet, just include long walks, about 45 minutes. Because you don’t burn any calories till you’ve reached the 20 minutes threshold. You only start burning calories after 20 minutes.

      • Byron Daniels

        I have

        • Byron Daniels

I had been doing the soup for 4 days however I’ve been going to the gym doing upper and lower body How can I adjust this I don’t want to lose the progress I’ve been making at the at the gym

      • Amsnda

Question can you chew gum on this diet

  113. Sherman

Hey Ted, I run between 1 to 2 miles before my weight training 3-5 times a week. I just started the diet, will it be ok to eat a boiled egg without the yolk in the morning along with the soup?

    • Ted

Hi Sherman, You really shouldn’t do this diet while engaging in heavy exercise. It doesn’t offer enough calories to support both your metabolism and exercise.

      • SNK68

        Exactly hat Ted said!

        • SNK68

          Exactly what Ted said.

  114. Helanna

How do u prevent from Gaining the weight back

  115. Charles

Hey Ted how much of the soup can we eat on a daily basis?

    • Ted

I don’t believe there is a limit. Until full.

  116. Melissa

Which almond milk?, Unsweetened? Green leafy veggies can we eat a salad with dressing?

    • SNK68

Which ever milk you want to substitute for the skim milk, must have same calories, same protein and same fat intake.
You can eat salad but no dressing. Use low sodium seasoning salt or lemon pepper.

  117. Deep

Can I use chicken broth instead of beef broth

    • Ted

      yes

    • SNK68

Yes, just make sure it’s low fat broth.

  118. Trina

What can you use if you don’t eat meat?

    • Ted

yes, but you would have to put in a protein substitute.

    • Sonja

I did this diet when vegetarian. I used Yves ground beef substitute and ground chicken, as well as the veggie beef burgers on beef days..Looked for high protein low carb veggie protein options. And used miso soup for the base instead of beef or chicken broth. And onion soup mix instead of chicken noodle. It does work….

    • SNK68

Yes, chicken or fish, no more than 10 ounces on day 5 and no more than 12 ounces day 6. You’ll only miss on the iron from the beef.
Oh just re read your post, I guess you could use meat substitutes that have the same protein count and calories as well.

  119. Shannon Riley

instead of the beef broth can I use chicken broth and also the pkg of vegetable soup mix-dry, can I use chicken soup mix-dry

    • SNK68

      Shannon,
Yes for the chicken broth but make sure it’s a low fat, low calorie one. Actually it’s lipton low fat chicken noodle soup pkg.

      • Shay

Is the 60 calorie soup mix okay?

  120. Lori

The diet suggests eating a cup of bran or fiber. Cereal?

    • SNK68

No not this diet, and I’ve been doing for years.

  121. Bernadette

Can I use oil and vinegar for my salads?

    • Ted

I don’t believe so, but you could use lemon juice, salt, pepper

      • Bernadette

How about ACV (apple cider vinegar)?

        • Jennifer

I do the ACV lemon juice and cayenne pepper in 6 oz water every morning and night whether I’m on the diet or not

    • Jennifer

If you check out the GM diet app which is basically the same diet they say you can have any vinaigrette dressing. That’s what I used. Of course just monitor the fat and calorie content.

      • SNK68

Vinaigrette dressing is an absolute no-no if doing this specific diet.

    • SNK68

No, you can’t use vinegar or oil for your salads.
Like Ted said, lemon juice, salt and pepper, lemon pepper or low sodium seasoning salt which in my opinion is the best when combined with freshly squeezed lemon juice.

    • Medicnomore

I don’t know if they still have these, but the small pump bottles of low call dressing would be the ONLY thing I would consider, mainly because it’s pretty much flavored water! It’s better than nothing if you feel you have to have something. They are no calories, fat, etc

  122. Bernadette

Can I replace the bake potato with sweet potato?

    • Ted

      Yes

    • Jennifer

Download the GM diet app. It’s a little different version of the same diet. It says you can just with no added sugar.

  123. Bernadette

Can I have stevia for sweetener?

    • Ted

      Yes, that is fine.

      • Bernadette

Thanks I really like Stevia it the best.

  124. Lulu Rad

If I decide to blend the soup and not dice the vegetables will it still work the same way?

    • SNK68

Yes you could, but eating this soup as blended needs a good constitution, I for one could not do this diet on blended soup but if it works for you, than more power to you!
Let us know how it went please?

  125. Yvonne Taylor

This diet is not too far off the normal for me, especially after fasting during our Orthodox lent for 46 days. I am following the plan to support my friend who needs and wants to lose weight. She lives alone and does not cook, so I made the soup. I was totally surprised how great it tastes! I thought it would be so bland, but it’s delicious. I know it wouldn’t be as tasty substituting vegetable broth for the beef broth, but what do you think of its implication diet plan-wise?

    • SNK68

I don’t recommend vegetable broth because this soup is already made of vegetables. And as for the chicken broth vs beef broth, if they have the same calories, proteins and fat than why not. As long as your broth is low fat or fat free, you’re golden.

  126. Noemi

I Will try it today I am 153 lb my goal is 23 lb wish me luck

    • James

Good luck, are you also working out? I have found that water weight lost during cardio doesn’t come back as fast.

      • SNK68

If you’re going to work out, don’t do anything extra from day 1 through day 4. You metabolism cannot sustain it because of the low calorie and protein intake. You’ll burn muscle rather than body fat. Implement cardio exercise from day 5 through 10 , after you’ve eaten your meat proteins.

  127. James

Add Raspberries to your fruit day, they are at the top of the list of high fiber fruits. Each cup of raspberries contains about 8 grams of dietary fiber which is more than 1/3 of your total daily need. Raspberries also contain health promoting nutrients including vitamins C and B-complex, manganese, copper, magnesium and iron. The fiber will made you feel full longer.

  128. Gloria Lorenzo

Can you use honey to put in the tea? Also on the days of being able to eat vegetables can you add garlic to cook them in?

    • Ted

Hi Gloria, Honey would be a no and garlic would be a yes.

  129. Debbie Todd

On day 4 it’s says at least 3 bananas, what is ur limit?

    • Ted

A banana is about a hundred calories so you would want to keep this within reason.

    • SNK68

Like Ted said, bananas are high in calories and great source of potassium. So, just eat 3 during that day.
1 for breakfast with a glass of milk, 1 for snack same thing with milks and another (last) one with milk. Have those in between your soup meals as snacks.

  130. Nozipho

please send me the diet plan

    • Ted

the diet plan is posted above.

  131. Regine

What if you don’t like bananas? What can be substituted for that?

    • Ted

use another piece of fruit like an apple or a peach.

      • Cindy

        Can I drink almond milk?

        • Ted

You can use it in place of the skim milk and should choose a variety that has similar calories to that of skim milk.

        • SNK68

If you’re going to change the skim milk for another type of milk (if you must), like soya milk, almond milk and/or any other kind of milks, you need to make sure they are the same, calorie wise, fat content wise, protein wise.
As for the bananas, if you just dislike them but are not allergic to bananas, come on, it’s only 3 bananas out of your 7 days. Bananas at this point are a great serving of healthy calories, potassium and have a real purpose on that day of your diet, mix it with skim milk and make a shake out of it or just plainly eat them down real fast during the day, one at a time.

  132. Trina

What if your allergic to tomatoes? Is there something you substitute? Or just eliminate it totally?
    Thanks for your help

    • Ted

You could put in a yellow squash.

      • Trina

        Thanks will do that

  133. merri johnstone

done this diet so many times and it does work if you follow it correctly

    • SNK68

Agreed, being doing it myself for like 20 years now, had my share of lessons by changing things, like subtracting ingredients or swapping days. among other things Those were my trial and error days and it cost me many hardships. If you don’t follow it to a “T” and make changes, you’re only cheating yourself of the better results you could of achieved.
This diet works best if you follow it to a “T”, period!

  134. Prophecy7

@Jimmie,I put the skim milk in a blender with the bananas and make a banana smoothies. That way you can’t taste the milk.

    • Jennifer

Yes so delicious. I’ll never get another high calorie banana shake from checkers. Freezing the bananas you use instead of using ice makes your smoothies thick and creamy.

  135. Prophecy7

@Kelli,did you use the Cabbage Soup? Or the Alternate Soup?

  136. Jimmie davis

What an you substitute skim milk for on day four of the diet? I do not like skim milk.

    • Jennifer

      Almond milk

      • Jennifer

I used high protein 2% milk

        • SNK68

High protein milk or Almond milk has more calories and fat than skim milk, you need to find something closer to skim milk calorie wise, fat wise and protein wise.

  137. Kelli

Your opinion on this topic is,weak and a lite disheartening. This is a very useful diet.I did it for a month, lost 40Lbs, cleansed my body and no, I didn’t gain it back. It’s not just Water loss…IT’S Clean Healthy eating.

    • Ted

Great work Kelly! I would say that you are an exception, however.

      • Jennifer

Any diet or cleansing program has to be maintained. If u go back to eating the same old junk food u will gain it back but this is an excellent cleanse and jump start to weight loss or even if u have a special occasion or event and need to get off a quick 10 lbs…. Eating on a daily basis has to be done in moderation. Cheat every now and then, not every day. I will be doing this once a month to continue to cleanse and maintain.

    • Rocky

I agree! Great results. Good healthy cleansing!

    • Freda Cotten

      I agree with you Kelly,

    • SNK68

Great job Kelli, and amazing will power!
It’s results like yours that keep inspiring me to do this diet and I’ve been doing it close to 20 years now.
Water loss on this diet is minimal, you truly burn body fat and the more you drink, the more fat you release.

  138. Gwenea Ervin

I will try it Monday I no I can do it wish me luck✌✌

    • SNK68

Good luck Gwenea, you can do it!!
If you need anymore information and tips, look at my news posts, that pretty much cover all the bases.

  139. cindy

I started this diet today it is very hard but i am giving it a try an im not cheating i will do the 7 days wish me luck

    • SNK68

Good luck Cindy, you can do it!!
If you need anymore information and tips, look at my news posts, that pretty much cover all the bases.

  140. shawn chandler

When u eat the raw veggies can u dip it in ranch dressing

    • Ted

no, ranch would add a lot of extra calories.

      • SNK68

Exactly what Ted said, try and play with your spices to with the raw veggies, like low sodium seasoning salt or lemon pepper.
You can also steam cook your green veggies unless it’s a salad. On a salad I use low sodium seasoning salt.

  141. cassandral patterson

why am gain weight when i start the sacred heart diet i gain 6 ponds before i dropped went from 200 to 192 restarted the second day i am up to 200 again

    • Kelli

If u do exactly what your instructed, you will lose weight …maybe u are dehydrated and so initially your body will keep the water.keep going..it works

    • SNK68

Best advice’s I can give you are, from day 1 early morning to day 8 early morning, leave your scale alone. And from what you’ve said, I think you’re not drinking enough to help evacuate your body fat.

  142. verona Strauss

5 years ago I followed this soup 7 days and lost 10 kg I’m under active thyroid and it was the very first time I lost after several attempts. Now with festive days gone I gained 5 and will do this fit just five days.

    • SNK68

Wow! 10 kg’s is 22 lbs loss, fantastic achievement! By far the biggest loss I’ve ever heard of for 7 day diet.
      Congratulations!!!

  143. Tonia Anderson

Starting diet today, but used a different version which added cabbage. Will let you know how it works! Also added the recipe to My Fitness Pal (app) using 1200 calorie guide line. Used before was a great detox!

    • Tess

What is the cabbage recipe? Does it work the same as the normal recipe with this diet?

      • SNK68

I have tried the cabbage diet myself and found this one better for me. But I do know people who tried it and stuck to that version.

  144. Linda

Here’s the thing with this Diet. Its a great boost to get you back on track or lose weight fast. And that’s where people mess up. Do the week, but get on a fresh fruit and vegetable low salt, low sugar, low carb change of life way of eating. Diets are temporary and that’s what we seem to forget…

    • Dior87

I agree… Its nothing but a jumpstart to motivate you to lose weight and keep going…and trust me… 10 pounds in a week was alot of motivation for me. I did the cabbage soup diet. They are all the same. But i do it for a week then off for two weeks… Maintaining well!!!

    • SNK68

Yes, diets like this is great for immediate self gratification and a boost to eat better and start exercising more here and there.
If losing between 10 and 17+ lbs in 7 days is not a booster to lose more and lead a better life style, then nothing is.

      • Leah v P

Hi l have done this diet many times, and failed every time never able to see it to day 7, last week my girlfriend and I decided to do it together, I am just finishing day 7, I did a sneaky weigh, 10.4 lbs yay feeling really positive to continue to eat well. ?

  145. Jennifer

I am going to weigh in and start tomorrow

    • SNK68

      What were your final results?

  146. susan

I actually did this diet and it worked great! I lost a total of 19pds. I was shocked!!! But i was also exersising everyday. Ready to go for it again!!

    • SNK68

Wow! Well done susan, great job! Make sure you give yourself a week in between doing two 7 day diets back to back.

  147. Rocky

I am currently trying this diet. It is very hard to be on a diet as I love my sweets. I am doing it to detox. I am not sure how much weight I have lost yet.

  148. D

    Im back

I did it for a 2nd time and Bang !!!……12 lbs again.

After being off the diet for 1 week and really watching what I eat, I only managed to gain 1lb.

This diet works, you feel lighter and more energetic. I will try it one more time until I (hopefully) reach my goal……then it’s join the gym and start my muscle building workout program.

    • SNK68

      Congrats, well done!

  149. ron smith

    try this one

  150. D

I tried it just before the holiday……followed it To The Tee and lost 12lbs in 1 week. I knew I would gain majority of the weight back fast because WE EAT over the Christmas holiday.

I’m ready to give it another go again then continue with just watching what I eat over all.

    It worked for me people

  151. Pamela H

This diet is not PHONY!!!!! I have used it many times and love it, once you have lost the desired weight you wish then you simply eat healthy foods to keep your weight off!!!! It is great for detoxing the body, and followed right you can shed alot of unwanted weight.

  152. Rajesh

Nice diet tips for diet after heart attack.

  153. Jackie

Hi I just want to make the soup…I won’t follow the diet…I eat all food groups .

    • Ted

Cool, let us know how you like it.

      • TAPS's

Awesome jump start diet, I lost 50 lbs 1 week on this, then low calorie portion control in between, then on another week on this diet again with lots of exercise! You can do it!

        • denise

          50lbs in 1 week?

        • Ted

          Obviously not true….

        • liz

No they said 1 week on the diet and another week low calorie and then again…..eventually 50 lbs. Not in one week

        • SNK68

Losing 50 lbs in 7 days is a physical impossibility thing to do, I think he either made a typo or cut off a limb.

      • SNK68

If so, then you’re going through a hardship for nothing.
The chronology of this diet and it’s ingredients on specific days is what makes it a success.

    • SNK68

      • Leah

Hello, I’ve been looking through the comments! Has anyone experienced stomach pain. I’m on day 3 and my stomach hurts. I have been eating the soup according to the recipe. And I have not cheated at all, I want to follow through since I have already started! Any reason why? Most of the feedback looks positive, am I maybe doing something wrong?

        • Nicole

I got sick as well, and had no energy, I had to stop.. i wanted to start back I at a stand still with my weight

        • Medicnomore

This recipe is different than the one I’ve always had, in that mine calls for an entire had of cabbage, cut up. This is what helps with some of the water weight, as well as cleaning out your gut. That was actually suspected to be a large portion of the weight loss number, since so many have problems with constipation, for many reasons. If you aren’t accustomed to eating as many veggies, especially tomatoes, it may just be that you are having gas pains. There is nothing that says that you can’t take something to help with that.
Also, just tell you a couple of things that I do that does Not change anything. I use butter flavored flakes, as well as butter flavored must (found near regular butters in store), for veggies, potatoes, etc. And Truvia for fruits if needed. Good Luck!

        • Linda N.

Leah, I’m curious if you ended up going through with it, or you quit? I too had some stomach pain, but day three was my “cleanse” day and after that I did feel so much better and had so much more energy. My cravings stopped and I just feel better! I am on day 5 so don’t know my results yet, but I love all this feedback and positive input! It helps to hear what you can and can’t do from people with experience with the diet. Hope you got through it. I have SEVERAL pounds to lose, I have arthritis and I know I am a heart risk, so this is SO important to me, as life can be short! Good luck to you,
