eFitness is an online exercise and fitness program backed by ACE certified trainers (American Council on Exercise). The web site is run by award-winning weight loss site eDiets.com
The program is subscription based, and comes in 2 flavors - a 9 week subscription, and a full year subscription (at significantly discounted price).
What you get for your money, is a customized workout program containing resistance exercises and cardio; daily meal plans; access to member-only message boards; access to a vast array of 3D-animated exercise instructions.
eFitness - The 'personalized' profile
You start off by entering information about yourself, such as weight, experience, waist size, preferred training days, and personal details. eFitness then responds with a 'so-called' personalized plan. To get the full plan you must pay the subscription fees (take careful note of the cancellation policies, you are generally locked in for 9 weeks).
Online Fitness
eFitness has all the glossy bells and whistles in terms of eye candy, but, we believe, it lacks substance. Online fitness programs are somewhat of an anomaly to begin with. It's one thing to provide a meal and nutrition plan. It's another thing to come up with a completely customized training program.
You're never going to match having a real live fitness trainer down at the local gym, and the programs at eFitness appear to be very computer generated. Things like body fat are measured only by using a formula of waist size against weight. Not a particularly accurate measurement, and one that you cannot rely on.
For Beginners Only - Save Your Money
The exercises recommended on eFitness are interesting. Most of them appear simple and perhaps okay for someone who has never picked up a weight before. However ultimately these kinds of exercises will not cut it. See our review on Global Health and Fitness for a far superior program.
Our bodies adapt very quickly, and the workouts need to change accordingly. Dumbbell squats? Your probably better of getting a simple eBook, like Tom Venuto's Burn The Fat, and using the workout plans on there.
The so called personalization on eFitness seems to be a gimmick.
